Did ROCR make it into the latest CR/Omnibus Bill?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ROCR the least of our concerns at this point. Will be legislation by FIAT and social media pressure.

Trust me...no one who actually works wants an absolute emphasis on efficiency.

I wonder if Astro tried to get something in and it was just not going to happen or are there others plans to try an push this thing through. Maybe this thing is basically dead at this point. I haven't heard anything about it in some time.

I dunno, those of us in private practices who are able to deliver care at a fraction of the price of hospitals and academic centers think we'd be able to play rather well in that sandbox.

Not me. I like a world with multi-disciplinary meetings, CME time, research offices, time with patients, academics (not me, but good to have around somewhere), non-profit directed research (fundamental stuff overwhelmingly funded by gvt), opportunities for scholarship for those that want to pursue it and an emphasis on employment for the public. These are called human values.

I was reminded of the miracle of our imperfect system the other day when taking a CME on breast cancer (CDK4-6 drug indications and data...there is nothing interesting left for me to review this year in radonc world). The presenter was a real expert, a frumpy academic putting forward a concise, data driven 30 minute presentation for free consumption. There was zero personal branding. He was an esteemed academic but not a purveyor of direct to patient medical advice or products.

I'm worried this stuff will be considered low value.

Now if the gvt figures out that protons are low value...have at it. This should be obvious.

I provide care at a fraction of the cost of academics btw. We will see if there is an emphasis on community care 🤣

Pretty sure you could compete in any environment.

Not surprised. ASTRO has no political clout
So you’re saying one of the smallest medical specialties whose leaders have complained for years about the federal government not listening to them and treating them poorly doesn’t have the clout to get the federal government to make one of its largest agencies pay them completely differently than every other medical specialty and guarantee them annual reimbursement stability?

I mean. Now that you’ve said it. I guess this is possible.

Most of the ASTROPAC people are thronesniffing wannabes. They cannot admit that they are irrelevant

I have no insight into this, but given the crazy stuff in omnibus bills, I guess there could be some possibility for a legislative end around like this in a different political environment...and it would be rightly pilloried.

I cannot imagine it being very popular within any region (unlike aid to farmers, disaster relief and aid for bridge reconstruction) nor high priority politically for any congressman. There is no ideological motive for it (on the right or left).

My question is, "Who da f were these folks talking to and what transpired to make this seem like even a remote possibility"?

I always assumed the play was to get it snuck into some giant omnibus bill where no one really has the time to read it before the vote. Otherwise why would anyone in Congress stick their neck out for huge special interest carve out like this.

Simple word search for radiotherapy, radiation, oncology says no.

Radiation shows up one time in a part about protecting apprentices in certain industries.
Too bad this doesn't apply to RO residents . . .

unfortunately for these Blanche Dubois’, reality hasn’t caught up with them since the specialty tanked in the match. Nor have they noticed that radoncs are no longer seated with the cardiologists and ents at Indian weddings.
