"Request information from programs", that is?

Every residency application timeline I've seen has this as one of the first steps, does anybody still do this in the internet age? Is it considered a sign of interest for the program to actually receive a request such as this, (or is it a sign of paranoia I've already started to think that way?) 😳

if you're trying to show interest in a program this may not have that effect. You'll probably talk with the secretary who will send out a brochure.
Realistically you'll get more info than you could possibly want at the interview.

A lot of people who interviewed me would say things like, "Here's my card. If there's anything else you want to know, please email or call or whatever." If that person happened to be a chair or PD, I would typically come up with something else to email them about in early february in order to keep my name in their face. I guess it's all about brand management, though, because I suppose, depending upon what you ask, you might come off like a dumb ass. I've been told by residents in other fields (OB, surgery, and ENT) that some programs actually keep a tally of things like whether their ap was on time, whether they sent a thank you note after the interview, and whether (and even how many times!) the applicant emailed to ask a question or express interest. Hard to say if it's true, but after you hear it from a few unrelated people, you start to think there's something to it.
