Did you have a DO LOR for your app?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I just want to find out how many of you have or dont have a DO LOR supplimenting your application.

If you do/dont, were you accepted, waitlisted, or rejected in your interviews?

Im just curious b/c i want to get a better insight as to how ad coms choose canidates.

Thanks,
bryant

For my applications, I had my family practice doctor (a D.O.) write a letter that she sent to my advisor who then included it in a composite letter. I also asked her to fill out the l.o.r. form that Nova sent me. Nova's the only place where I've been invited to interview, and I've been accepted there.

I didn't have a DO LOR, only a LOR from an MD. I have been accepted to COMP.

Good luck!

I also had a LOR from a DO that I shadowed. I was accepted by PCOM and waitlisted at NSUCOM.

Good luck! 🙂

I was interviewed at PCOM without a letter from any physician. And I was interviewed at Nova with an MD letter before my DO letter arrived. I was accepted at both.

I had an MD letter (no DO letter) and was accepted to UMDNJ-SOM. They didn't ask me about why I didn't have a DO letter, so I don't think it's that important for UMDNJ. Some schools almost require it though...

I didn't have a DO or MD letter. I got into DMU and UNE, the only 2 osteo schools I applied to. For DMU, they said that they wanted a letter documenting my health care experiences, but I never was at one place long enough to feel confident that they could write me a solid letter, so I sent one in from my principal investigator, and that seemed to do the trick. Good Luck!

I got a letter from a DO as well as an MD and was accepted at Touro, waitlisted at COMP, and rejected at AZCOM. I had shadowed both on a few occasions and thought it would be helpful to let adcoms know that I had explored both options.

Maybe going overboard....but I figured better safe than sorry.
I know many times I saw comments from adcoms to the effect that they would rather see a letter from a DO or MD that actually knows who you are vs. a letter from a DO that just met you fifteen minutes ago just for the sake of having a DO letter.

Good luck!

thanks for feedback.

I work in an environment during my weekends with both DO's and MD's. I wanted to know how important it was to asked them for letters. I've got mixed results, but I'll play the "better safe than sorry" route.

I applied this year also, but a little late (secondary sent b4 xmas). We'll see how things go.

thanks again folks,

Bv.

If you can get a DO letter ,it will be great. But if you have no way to get it then just forget it. But I do believe you have a letter it will be to your advantage.
T o answer the original question,I had both .
Goodluck🙂
