Hello everyone, I just received my first batch of secondaries. Did you type the forms or handwrite them? I don't own a typewriter, so that's why. I actually typed my applications for undergrad, but that was back in 1989, before the widespread advent of word processing. Oh, and did you send them certified mail?

Thanks.

The only secondary that I returned was that for UPENN. Yes, I did type it out because I do feel that you need to show these people that you own a computer and printer 😉 Besides, you don't want them to mis-read something you wrote by hand do you? As for your second question, you always send mail that is anything near "important" via certified mail. I think that dental school secondaries qualifies as "important". 🙂 Good luck.

But the secondaries come on pre-printed forms. You would have to use a good old manual typewriter to type exactly inthe space provided, or maybe MS Word has this feature, but i don't know about it?

How did you type your secondaries?

All I did was re-type the questions and typed the answers under them in Word. Hand in the secondary as an attachment. I wrote in the space provided in the original form: Please see attached answers.

I guess that was good enough for Penn.

I did exactly what Acid did. You wouldn't go to your interview with uncombed hair or torn up shirts. Why send your supplementary with a rugged look either. I spent over 15-20 hours doing my PENN secondary. I spent about 3 hours just formatting my computer so I could type the factual answers on my computer (you know the questions: name, address, social security etc). Was it worth it? I got in didn't I?

Presentation is the key!! Don't underestimate the power of a sparkling application. I think that helped me get an interview at PENN without my DAT scores, cuz you could tell from my supp that I wanted in, badly.

Hope this helps,

DesiDentist

I totally agree with you Desi. 15-20 Hours?!?!? So, what's holding you back from Penn? You know you want it. 😀

TO ALL OF THOSE WHO HAND-WROTE SECONDARIES:

don't freak out...it really doenst matter whether you type or wirte as long as you write legibly.

Kinko's have typewriter, if you decide to type your secondary.

I type the answers in word & do my best to space them corecctly. I hold my printout over their original document and afer a few trial & error attempts I can get it to match. Then I print it out on their documant. This can get complicated when their original isn't 8.5 x 11 but it can be done.

i did not type my secondary to UPENN. got rejected! lol

I definitely did not type my secondaries, and i got in to Michigan, Buffalo, CWRU, and Ohio State. So it's not necessary to type for those schools at least. I emailed the lady from kentucky about their secondary and she said that most people don't own typewriters anymore so it would be perfectly fine to hand write it, she just urged me to get it in as quick as i could. So whatever is fastest makes them happy.
