What do you guys think about that? Say a person has an average of a 90 and the other person has an average of a 100, but both are still an A on paper nobody is gonna question the number grade for it...

so should the guy who made a 90 feel inferior to the person who made a 100?

just wondering because I am feeling infeior as hell right now...I think I just hit a wall in my early college career...what do you guys think?

Not if the person who made a 90 put half the effort. Then shouldn't the person who made the 100 feel inferior?

Let me get this straight. You feel inferior as hell right now because you got a low 90s on your paper?

If that's the case, you should feel proud of yourself. IMO, Life is too short to over worry about this matter.

This reminded me of the A+ and A ordeal. If you received an A+ in your class grade, should or should you not get a higher GPA than the student who received an A???

At my university, A+ and A are counted the same in terms of calculating GPA.

something to think about...

I think we have a weird system, someone with an 89 and a 90 really have that much of a difference in knowledge that it screws with your gpa? Anyway you shouldnt feel inferior but it never hurts to do better! I love that feeling of walking into a final and only having to get a 60 or 70 to get an A!

No way man. An A is an A, plain and simple. You can't worry about the other guy, just worry about yourself. There's always gonna be people ahead of you, just keep focused and work for the letter grade you want. The number doesnt matter one bit in the end.

So, are you asking us what to feel? lol...WTH?

Stupid Question.

Or maybe you just want us to stroke your ego?

the guy w/the 100 should feel dumb for wasting his time trying to get a 100.

I guess that is true if you are in a class to just get a good grade. The only reason I care about grades now is because the pharmacy schools are obsessed with things like stats. Otherwise, it is secondary to my goals in a class. I'm a much better student now because I'm focused on learning as much as I can. When I'm learning about physiology, for example, I'm trying to think of how the physics works or how it might have evolved. I'll be thinking to myself, "Oh, this works because of LeChatelier's Principal. I'm glad I learned about that in chemistry." It really helps with the long term retention of material. If that brings me a 100 on an exam, I guess that means I wasted my time. Somehow I don't feel bad about that.

I think too much focus on grades creates a distraction for real learning.

I was like that my first year as a transfer at my current university. Everyone is so uptight about that one minute point to get them to a higher A. I'm starting to think with mediocre stats (GPA/PCAT wise) like mine was even worth all the hard work during those first two years of prerequisite courses. 👎

I'm not asking you what to feel, I'm just curious about your opinions. Sorry if my "stupid question" offended you in any way.

I guess it looks like I need an ego boost, but no not really. Thing is, I was really happy about my score in the 90's...but one day the professor put the grades up and everyone can look at it...I saw a bunch of 100's and 100+'s because of extra credit...so that brought me down to reality real quick...

I mean...idk I just don't like this feeling...lol

worry about your own grade. stop comparing yourself to others. your rival should be yourself. try to change and improve the next time you take a test, turn in a paper..etc

I wouldn't even worry about it. Those who got the 100/100+ scores may have needed to make up for an earlier exam they bombed. Maybe they didn't. But either way if you get the A with your 90, what is the difference. No one knows it was you with the 90 and not the 100/100+.

Be happy with a 90, it is a very impressive score!

No offense, But at my school, a 90= A-, which is worth 3.7 gpa credits.

An A is worth 4.0 gpa credits. So where I am from, a 90 hurts you. if this is not the case in your situation, then a 90 is just as good as a 100. if you get penalized for it, then I would feel inferior also.

It depends on the grading system (curved or not.) In one of my class, 89 was an C because of the extra credit :bang:

no offense, but you sound like a freshman.

an A is an A as an A

No one can make you inferior without your consent.

I'm not going to judge you since I'm competitive, so I can see why you would feel that way. I think the difference is what you do with that feeling. If you let it affect your demeanor or future performance, then maybe you should get an attitude adjustment. (I lived in a world of cut-throat pre-meds; I hate that environment and I see it as the downfall of the profession.) I usually have a mantra of infinite self-actualization: you can do anything anyone else can do if you put your mind to it. I would wonder why i didn't get the score a lot of people seemed to have. In your case, you mentioned the EC. I'd bother to do the EC next time.
