It's first time to apply for residency and I need to know what means if the program categorical or none categorical.

Categorical simply means that the intent is that they will train you for all 3 years of your FM residency, as opposed to a prelim program which only guarantees a single year (and is generally seen in internal medicine or general surgery programs).

Basically all FM programs are categorical.

Not sure how this relates to "rural" FM, which was in your title?

Some rural FP programs have you do an intern year at a larger more urban program and then do years 2 and 3 at the rural site.

My program had interns from a rural program 30 miles away.
