difference between mitosis/binary fission?

Both seem to be pretty much the same thing: duplicate dna, move duplicates to opposite site, split cytoplasm. I know mitosis is in eukaryotes and binary fission in prokaryotes. Just wondering the difference in the procedure? Do all prokaryotes undergo binary fission instead of mitosis?

Mitosis definition involves the division of cell nuclei. Specifically, it includes steps of nuclear membrane breakdown and reformation.

This is just a simple difference. Both processes are pretty different at the molecular level.

Prokaryotes don't have the hardware to undergo mitosis... ie the spindle apparatus.

As far as the second question... For the MCAT - yes all prokaryotes undergo binary fission. In reality this is not true though... research suggesting alternatives to BF is relatively new.
 
Mitosis and binary fission are similar processes, but there are differences, as some already pointed out. Another difference is BF is a form of reproduction; however, no new organism is created from mitosis.

Mitosis = Multiple origins of replication

Binary Fissuion = 1 origin of replication and has rolling circle replication of DNA instead of the form you see in eukaryotes.

Right, but this only describes a difference in DNA replication (which is also remarkably different between proks and euks), not necessarily a difference in cell division.
