Now, having been under the care of a DO and an MD primary care physician...I have to say that I don't notice any appreciable difference between them skillwise. Actually the DO was better at relating to me and was more perceptive to my medical problems. But as far as training, what is it that osteopathic docs learn versus allopathic doctors?

In my emergency department, I have worked with a variety of physicans. Some are FMGs (Poland, Italy, and France), one is a DO, a few are boarded in EM, and only one has done residency in EM. Most are boarded/trained in FP or IM.

There is no way that you could predict their school/residency/certification from just working with them.

The DO can be brusque with patients, the FMG is the most acquainted with the recent literature, the FP is the one you want in a crisis. Most of the nurses and medics have no idea where the docs went to school or trained.
