Why is analpram (pramoxine and HC) for rectal use and pramoxone (same ingredients as analpram) for topical skin conditions? What is the difference in formulation that makes one suitable for rectal use and the other one not?

Also, is the reason for Duac being a fridge item while Benzaclin not is that Duac is mixed by the manufacturer long before it got in the hands of the patient (therefore the expiration date would approach sooner) while Benzaclin would last 3 month (no refrig needed) due to the fact that it is mixed at the pharmacy right before the patient receives it? Or is there something else different between the 2 drugs that makes 1 a fridge item and the other not?

help is appreciated!

i seem to remember patients putting benzaclin in the fridge as well. i think it was more soothing on their faces.
maybe not, this is a vague memory!

There is no difference between Analpram-HC and Pramosone. They are probably that way because of $$$$$ issues.

Same as Zyban/Welbutrin SR.

For Duac and Benzaclin, you're right. Duac is kept in the fridge to preserve the drug. Once Duac is opened, the patient can store it at room temperature for up to 60 days.

Just like if you bought cake mix at the grocery store, it doesn't expire at room temperature in powder form. However, if you bought an already made cake from the bakery, if they kept it in the fridge, they could sell it longer.

I'd never refrigerated my Benzaclin but one pharmacist thought it should be (she was thinking erythromycin, I think...) - anyway, I started doing that in hopes that it would keep longer as I never finish it in <3 months.

So if the doctor wrote for pramoxine and HC (rectal), can the pharmacy only dispense analpram even though the ingredients of pramosone is the same?
