I asked my boss for a letter of rec earlier. She said she'd be happy to and "Let me know the medical schools you will apply for, or I can just write a generic letter for every school you apply for."

What does she mean by this? Is it customary to attempt to cater to each school? Anyone else doing this?

And, yes, I'm finding that I'm pretty ignorant to this whole process. I just learned what "closed vs open file" meant and the importance of the premed committee letter...

i think she just wanted to know whether or not to address it individually, or generally. i think this is the only question that LOR writers ever really have. anyway, she should write it to a general adcom audience. like dear admission committee:

you would be sending this thru a pre health packet/virtualevals right?

Um... virtual evals?

I meant to ask about Interfolio. Seems like it will make the whole process 10x easier but I just having to figure it out for the first time during the actual process.

well, how does your school do it?

most schools, including mine, have you send at least 2 recs (1/2 science 1 humanities) to the schools pre-professional services. from there, your school might interview you, have your write essays, evaluate teacher evaluation forms (if your school does that each semester), etc. and they will write a composite LOR along with however many letters you add. They will send this virtually, at no charge to you, through an AMCAS system and maybe a VirtualEvaluation system

you can also send individual letters through Interfolio if you like.
