So, I took my first practice test for the mcat today on e mcat. I have prepared at all, and I am just beginning. I figured it would be wise to familiarize myself with the test itself.

I have to give a little background. I am not a genius and can generally make an a in any course that I put effort. I have not had micro or any orgos. I am more fresh with gen physics 1 and Chen 2 right now. Funny how all of the physics question on this test were physics2 and those stupid circuits!

Anyway, I found that I had to flat out guess on a ton of them. Especially orgo. I made a 12 composite. Wtf lol. Umm, please tell me that the mcat is not based on iq.. Can someone take the time to study the material and be fresh enough to break 30, or is it pretty much inherent at birth? I dint make a 27, I don't get in school. I'm planning to take mcat right after I finish organics

Look at it this way, you can make a lot of improvement.

When I first took a practice MCAT before I finished all the courses I got a 21. After I finished all the courses I scored a 25 on a practice test. After studying for 2 months, I'm scoring a 32 on practice exams.

Also the MCAT is definitely not a straight-forward exam testing your knowledge in specific subjects. Although there are a few discrete questions and hidden discrete questions. The passage-based questions are the ones which really test your understanding of the concept is where peoples scores become divided. As for Verbal it just tests your ability to understand and elaborate dense articles under a time constraint.

I agree. I found the time to only be a problem on the verbal. Interestingly enough. It was still a nice shocker to see 12, lol.

Do you think it is more wise and easier to get a faster, better result of the practice test by taking it section by section? I mean really, I wrote two very good essays , thinking e mcat would grade it, and it burned me out. Yes I know I will have to do it anyway, but just to focus on the actual test. I think I will start taking it section by section, excluding writing. When are you gonna take it for real? If you're getting 32, you should go quick! There's still time to apply.

I'm actually scheduled to take the MCAT in a few days and am hoping for a 30 or more. Scores can range so always be prepared for a possible score less then your practice ones.
I did not take the writing section when I practice. They are removing the writing section starting January so I didnt take it too seriously. I believe I should have enough stamina to take the biological sciences after a writing section, after all its my future dreams on the line lol.
Also taking individual section tests is not a bad idea. Its better to do that then nothing. It can be hard to get 4 hours to take a full practice MCAT in one sitting.

If it makes you feel better my first practice MCAT was a 15 and I ended up with a 27 on the real thing. There's lots of room for improvement, my friend! 👍

The diagnostic I took the first time I took it was a 22. Got a 33 on the test. Taking a test without any prep = you just wasted a perfectly good practice test. Don't do anymore until you are done studying.

Thanks. Yea no more writing for me. Especially since the essay won't be there after January next year. So I'll take all sections independently on Saturdays. I saw somewhere somebody took practice tests every Saturday. But yes finding time to study for this will be a job. I've mysteriously had 2 people ask me today what I was going back to school for, because I just graduated last year. You know, that typical " so where you working " question. And I'm like, "not working, going back to school". And Someone randomly overheard and said "omg the mcat ruined my life. I've taken it three times and I'm not in med school because of the mcat!"

That scares me a little lol
