Digital Camera for Dental School?

Anyone recommend a digital camera for dental school? Do you think it might come handy for taking pictures of anatomy, wax-ups, models, or whatever?

I don't see a need for it in pre-clinic, but in clinic we are required to use it for all cases that we do. A before-and-after documentation of sorts. We aren't required to buy one, because the school provides the cameras in clinic.

Check with your own anatomy profs, but at our school we were told that if we were caught taking pictures of the cadavers we'd be kicked out of the lab.

I like to think of the digital camera as a teaching tool for patients. After completing your intra & extra oral exams, you take pics of the teeth which need work done , explain the possible treatment plans and show the pics to the patient. You can also take pics of the Xrays to explain things to the patient . Patients really appreciate this and are even more convinced to follow through with treatment as they see the evidence/facts presented to them. 👍

As a matter of fact, we (some people in our class) took a bunch of pictures of the brain and spinal cord to prepare for our practical. Our class is awesome in that we share info. (i.e, pictures, outlines, etc). Our professor didn't seem to mind. Either way it is a great idea and a good investment if you can utilize this tool. Good luck.

We were not allowed to take any pictures in the human anatomy lab. It was strictly forbidden. but i dont think it was to stop us from learning, rather some legal/ethical issues(??)
