I need Christmas present suggestions. I got my mom a Kodak EasyShare CX4300 back in 2003 and it's about time to replace it with a newer, faster camera.

She's been happy with the Kodak so far, but I was reading some of the reviews online about the newer versions and some of them are just so-so.

Does anyone have a digital camera that they like that's also compatible with Macs? I know that's a silly question, because these days most things are compatible with Macs, but back when I bought her first camera I got that brand simply because it was the only one in the store that mentioned Macintosh on the box.

I'm not looking to spend more than two or three hundred dollars (hopefully less!) but I want at least four or five megapixels. She has Tiger on her computer so it has to be compatible with that, too.

The Canon cameras are very well supported. I have an IXUS that came with a nice suite of software — readily put together a sequence of shots to make a panoramic view and a QTVR.

I'd like to get my hands on an Canon EOS400 digital SLR (aka Rebel). Very nice camera.

even if it's not compatible, just get a cheapo flash card USB adapter and your Mac will recognize it (that's basically what I do since i get lazy carrying around the USB cable). Mac's are great for photography because you can just connect your camera to USB, and iPhoto will detect it and sync everything up. It's extremely easy to use.

I never attach my camera directly to my computer. I just pop out the memory card and transfer photos using a card reader. It's a helluva lot faster, and doesn't drain the camera's battery. Not to mention the fact that I can never find that little cable that came with the camera, anyway. 😉

I do the same thing. It's a lot faster doing it this way.
