Hey guys,

I just got an interview at Rush and I am not sure if it's worth going or not. I live in Evanston, so the trip is not a big deal. I've already been accepted to NU, Ohio State and some other Ohio schools though, so I feel like it's a waste of time to go unless Rush has something unusual to offer that will seduce me away from these other schools.

The question is, for those who are familiar with Rush, do you think it is worth going considering my other acceptances? I don't know that much about the school so if anyone can give me some insight, it would be much appreciated!

Since you are in Evanston go just so you wouldn't have regret and think otherwise. I wasn't accepted to NU, but I would have taken NU over Rush most likely. This way you can also make good use of your secondary fee that you gave them. No matter, I think it's interesting to go to other medical schools if it won't be a hassle.

Plucky

Only thing I would add to that is to withdraw asap after interview if you are sure you don't want to go there so somebody else can get a chance.

Good point, but I find interviews pretty stressful (even if I don't plan on going to the school). Any other thoughts?

Even more reason to go. You should try to improve your interviewing skills- you're going to need them forever more. So people don't flame me, I am not advocating to go for all these reasons only- the most important reason is to look at the school and see if it is right for you. Now if you don't go- will they interview one more person? I don't know. It's your choice if to be altruistic.

I think my interview skills in particular are okay. I meant that I find the interview day as a whole stressful and tiring. It's just tiring to have to walk around all day looking/acting your best and answering two interviewers questions.

I think I probably won't attend unless someone has positive things to say about Rush over the other mentioned schools.

bump.. looking for more opinions..

Don't go so maybe I can get an interview...just kidding

I think that if you find interviews stressful, plus you have an acceptance to a school you really like, I don't think you should feel obligated to go. I would only go if you really think you might enjoy Rush more, you like the area more, the finances are better, or there is some other reason to think you might want to go there instead.

you should look at some of the interview comments on the interview thread on SDN, and maybe check out their website. if I'm not mistaken, you said you live in the area, so you can maybe go to the campus to check with some of the students before you decide whether or not you are going to the interview. if you are going to ask yourself the taunting question of "what if the school was the right place for me" then I think you should go. and btw, you sent them money for the secondary right? you need to just go to the interview so you can at least make good use of the money other wise you could've asked these question before you sent a second app in. also, you want to consider the fact that someone else could have that invite!! just my two cents. 😀 😀

Thanks for your input. I don't really get the "making best use of your money" argument. The money is gone (in terms of economics, I think it's called a sunken cost or something?). How does going to the interview make best use of the money? Good suggestion to check out the interview feedback.. I didn't even think of that!

If you know you won't go there if accepted, I think you owe it to your fellow NU classmates and students across the country to turn down the interview. You will be taking an interview spot up that perhaps someone who hasn't had a single interview may need. If you go and withdraw, you will still have taken an interview spot, but will open up a potential acceptance for a wait-list student. I graduated from NU 2 years ago, did post-bac pre-med, and was accepted at Vanderbilt in November. After that, I decided to turn down interviews at schools I knew I would not ever attend.

You're going to go to NU before Rush, I believe. Have you interviewed at Case? Ohio State provides you a quality in-state school(?) option.

I would talk to any students you know in med school who may have interviewed at Rush. Also, you must have some friends who considered Rush too.

I understand your point. I have already declined interviews/acceptances from schools I will not attend. The difference is, I knew more about those schools so I could make an informed decision. Unfortunately, I don't have any friends who applied to Rush and I just don't know that much about it. The website is not that helpful (doesn't even tell you if it is P/F) and the interview feedback all says the same things (Rush is good because everyone is happy and nice, but bad because the whole med school is on 3 floors or something).

I think I will probably decline the interview since the only concrete feedback I have gotten about the school (given by a friend) was negative.

you sent in a secondary fee right? the secondary was for you to get an interview right? all I meant was that if you knew they weren't a choice of school for you then you could've kept your money and not even considered an interview from them. so b/c you paid the secondary fee, just make the best of it and go to the interview you never know what may come out of it!! not being bossy just don't want you to miss out on an opportunity of a life time!! good luck to you in what ever you choose.

Thanks for the advice. I just declined though =) Hopefully someone else will benefit!
