So as I am sure we all have had snags in our application process, and now I have a big one plus Im not getting any younger, I have my bachelors 6yrs allready

I currently have my bachelors [in biz] and am back in school doing my sci pre-req's[post-baac] originally this semester the spring I was planning to take 3 sci [physics, bio and chem] and 2 electivesbut due to a snag I had surgery a few weeks ago and it is taking longer than I thought to recover so I am defiently doing to have to adjust my courseload. It will be tough doing school at all right now but mentally its a good thing a it takes away from thinking about pain and such
I also dont want adcoms to think I am taking a 'wimpy' courseload, so way it may end up is 2 sci this semester and and elective, 1 over the summer, 3 in the fall and one more the following semester with MCAT Prep

My dilemas are my undergrad gpa isnt stelllar b/c of these medical issues where I tried to take 18credits and didnt do as well as I could have
My orig plan was to finish all my pre-req's in the fall of '07, if necessary take 1 sci class in spring of 08 but mostly study for MCAT's [quit my job and such] take them like April or so and send in my stuff to AACOMS asap at the beginning of the cycle.

Just wondering do you guys think that will be too much as I want to do well on my MCAT's [hey who doesnt] too offset my ug gpa

Can I sent in my AACOMS info w/o MCATs or am I playing Russian roulette if I do bad on them.

My goal is to start school in '09 top choice in NYCOM, or TOURO-NY, NOVA.

Any comments, suggestions are helpful. THANKS AGAIN

ps sorry for massive amts of typos and such just took a painkiller

Do what you think you can handle. You don't want to overwhelm yourself and do poorly. Stick with it. The schools will realize and respect your perseverance. I wouldn't submit your AACOMAS until you get your MCAT score. If you have a bad score and think you should retake it, then you just wasted a lot of money and you have to reapply. I know some people will disagree with that, but I think it is better to wait. However, if you are consistently scoring high on the practice tests and want to take the risk, then go for it. I found that the practice tests give a fairly accurate prediction of your actual score. Good luck!:luck:

dont plan on taking the MCAT during an 18 credit semester. take it from someone who knows!!!! studying for the MCAT is like a full time job, or at least it should be. if you can still manage to just take a class or two, i think you'd be fine.

you can submit aacomas without MCAT, but correct me if i'm wrong, it wont be sent out until you have MCAT scores.

the whole process sucks, but another year wont kill you. a bad MCAT can, dont i know it! 😉

good luck :luck:

I don't know exactly what your conditon is, but I know the kind of trouble you are having. I tore both ACL's while in college and had surgery on both, I healed fast, but taking o-chem tests on pain killers was no fun. I would take things slow and really nail them, rather than overloading yourself- which would effect not only your grades but more importantly your health. I don't want to be a downer too, but this sounds like long term health problems- don't you need to be considered "able" to practice medicine as a DO like check out health wise??...also how will you be able to handle med school if you are not well. Again I don't know your circumstances so I may not know what I'm talking about. Hope you feel better soon though!!

yeah its been a crazy past few yrs had a lot of health problems was doing fine but got into a reall bad car acccident a few months back fast fwd need 2 or 3 surgeries more 1 down, 1-2 to go. mentally school has been great for keeping busy ignoring pain and such and so far i have a 4.0 on pre-req's's

of course my health is my 1st priority but i am still looking to progress towards my goals of becoming a do before i recieve social security just kidding.

i figured aacomas would hold off until they got mcat scores or such it makes sense, well in this sense it will be a plus that i have the cbt test as I assume you get your scores faster.

so im estimating for mcat's to spend 4months or so starting jan 08 [scary im using 08 and were just starting 07] and take 1 sci class at that time probably physics 2, which would force me to take 3 lab classes in the fall. i could do 2 classes and study mcats but i want to give as much attention as possible to my mcats. of course i hope i will only need 1 attempt plus i want to be early in the aacomas cycle.

thanks all
