when you guys are doing direct vision on mandibular prep/restore, for right handed people, are you sitting in a 12 or 8 o'clock position?

I usually sit where-ever I'm most comfortable.
In most cases it's at 4 Oclock?(which I guess must be your 8 O clock since I was never that good at telling time).

Depends on the specific patient, tooth, prep, and wall, but I'd say I spend about 80% of my time at 12:00 with the remaining 20% somewhere between 8-11.

from 12 position, where would you put your ring finger as a rest/stabilizer. say, if you were prepping class I on LL 1st molar, would you put your resting finger on lingual of premolars?

and if you were doing same prep on LR, would you put your rest finger on buccal of premolars or external cheek?

If doing a class 1 on a LL 1st molar i would use the occlusal surface of the LL premolars/incisors as my finger rest. If working on the LR i would use the same finger rests on the right side. Basically whatever is most comfortable and gives me good control.

In general i like to sit around 11/12 position for lower left and have the pt turn their head towards me if i need to do a buccal pit or something. When working on the LR depending on what i'm doing i'll either sit anywhere between 12-9 position or come all the way around to the 6/7 position if i'm working on the buccal surfaces of the posteriors or S/RP.

I find it weird to sit at the 12 o clock position unless i am working on the maxilla indirectly.

For mandibular work, I am most comfortable between 10 and 7, thighs parallel to the ground and back straight.
