Incoming intern this July here and I applied for some DI without understanding you can informally shopping around before applying. As the title implies I have been denied due to a recent diagnosis for a genetic disorder of which I am a carrier. My agent is currently pursuing informal inquiries with other carriers. Anyone out there been denied and still get an individual policy?

Hi Mitch - Most of the top disability insurance providers (Guardian, Principal, MassMutual, Standard, Ameritas) follow a very similar underwriting set of guidelines. Whenever someone is declined by one of these carriers, it's likely going to be the same result from all. However, the secondary market has a few "high risk" companies (Lloyds of London) that tend to make an offer for a 5-year benefit.
Hopefully you were able to find a policy. But if not, I would suggest looking into a Lloyds of London policy.

I may be able to help with a Guaranteed Standard Issue (GSI) disability insurance policy that does not require medical underwriting. Feel free to message me, and we can go from there.
