I know this has been discussed before but I met with a guy today and he brought up a concept that I had not heard before and was unfamiliar with. In discussing options he brought up the option of Transitional Occupation vs. Own Occupation. He told me that I only needed Own Occupation if I thought that I would have the option of starting a new career in which I had a higher income than when I was an anesthesiologist (in which case the Own Occ. would still pay me in full). He said that Transitional Occupation will cover up to what you were making previously and if you decide to embark on a new career with a lower income it will only pay the difference between your new income and your previously higher income. It does come with a lower monthly premium as well. Has anyone heard of this or have an opinion on this option.? It sounds like it will cover you like Own Occupation if you do not go back to work at all, but will cover the gap if you start a new, lower income career.
