I found out today from my professor that I will not be pulling of a B in Comparative Animal Physiology. Took the final on Tuesday and thought it went alright but I guess it was not good enough, even with a B lab. This will be my first C ever in a science course and needless to say I worked my butt off in there. I am just having a hard time coming to terms with it.

I know one C won't hurt me but I was not taking a full load this semester, so there should have been no excuse not to pull off at least a B. I was also taking the second part of Physics with a lab and I will end up with an A in there. I spent at least 45+ total hours a week for both classes and I just wish that my grade in Comparative would reflect how hard I worked. I feel that I have a handle on the material but his tests were just ridiculously hard.

Anyone else been in this situation? I think it will be one of those curl up on the couch with a bowl of ice cream days tomorrow 🙂

Eat your ice cream and move on. One C won't hurt you.

Haha, wow. I'm feeling the same way, and I'm actually taking less than a "full" course load this semester, too. (14 hours, which is technically full, but not a lot.) I just got out of orgo I with a C, possibly C+. The fact that only a quarter of the class has an A or B makes me feel a little better, and I pulled an A in the lab.... but still. I was a very sad, very disappointed Trilt for most of the day.

Then, creepily following JustCats' advice, I went out with eight friends and shared a Vermonster. My day managed got much better. Now a genetics final to study for.

I feel your pain. It sucks when you put that much effort into a class and your grade just doesn't reflect it. My academic Achilles' heel happens to be chemistry. Inorganic, organic, biological - you name it, I'm terrible at it. I spend about 4 hours a day outside of class studying for chem (as compared to, say, 30 minutes to not-at-all for my biology-type courses) and the very best I can pull off is a B-. Everybody's got their thing. Well, except for those type Aer's who have never gotten anything less than 115% in their lives, but I have a sneaking suspicion they're actually robots.

Same here. I am taking a full load (16 credits)... So, I think I totally bombed my third test in O-Chem today and I didn't do so hot on the first two. So, I'll probably (hopefully) end up with a C in that class... Luckily I can pull off an A in lab. As others have said, one C won't kill you. If it makes you feel any better, I already have my share of C's and W's. 🙄

Thanks everyone🙂

From my previous BA degree (psychology) I have my fair share of W's and a handful of C's too. I was just hoping to do awesome in these biology/prereq's. I was actually saving that "C" for Biochem which I'm taking in the fall just in case I needed it!!

Ninnerfish, I hate the robots. They screw up the curve on tests!

Will a C or C+ drop your GPA way down?
I have a 3.7 overall, 3.6 math/science and 3.6 last 45

Ya, but how much did you take from the class. when you take those phis classes in vet school, you're going to be a step ahead of a lot of other student (me being one of them lol)... Even if you don't remember the exact details for your first year of vet chool, the fact that you were exposed to it is really gonna help... focus on that

And the fact that i know plenty of people who got in their first, second, third, etc. try with more than one C on their transcript. And yes, you say you have that previous BA with a couple W and a couple Cs, well, Ad coms are gonna look and see that you came back and took all these other classes and did well (A is physics II... i couldn't even pull that one off, CONGRATS 😀).

You've got other classes to take and other opportunities to prove that you belong in vet school. So breathe. 🙂

Sorry i never responsed tot his part. It all depends on how many hours you have that build up that GPA. For me i have over 120 hours, so a C or 2 (or a few more lol) didn't bring it down much. You can calculate how much it will go down with math and stuff, but don't forget to factor in you A in physics! 😀

Okay, I wasn't going to put this out here, because it's pretty shameful, but since I got in I suppose it's all moot now: I got a D+ in O chem the first time I took it. So don't feel bad about a couple of C's ('cause I have my share of those, too). It seems like the end of the world at the time, I know, but it's not something that necessarily dooms you. I know in my case, my failures only make me want to try harder, just to prove that I'm not merely the sum of my shortcomings.

If it makes anyone feel better, at my undergrad in the 4 years I was attending, no one got higher than a B+ in orgo. The breakdown each semester was generally 1-2 B+, 3-4 B', 6-7 B-, 10-12 C+, 20 C, 5-6 C-, rest (out of 60-80 students) D or lower.

The school still boats 100% acceptance for pre-meds who apply in senior year (they also have a feeder program for pre-med.) Of the pre-vets (very few) my understanding is that once we applied, we all got in (we were a little slower off the mark, probably due to debt:income ratio issues.)

So, we don't really have robots...or the robots learn to be human! 🙂

totally off subject but... a Vermonster sounds to die for right now.😀 That is the height of ice cream deliciousness

CKD, the cat in your avvie is absolutely gorgeous. Does s/he belong to you?

And to contribute a bit more... this is happiness in a website. Use it wisely: http://www.zooborns.com/

Thank you! And yes, that is Aspen... He's my baby (even though he's actually about to turn 9). Awesome website, by the way!

On a side note, as long as we're admitting to embarrassing parts of our academic records... How does everyone feel regarding D's/F's vs. W's? I had to withdraw from an entire semester before so I racked up 6 W's in one shot. If I can't get my O-Chem grade to a C, do you think I'd be better off taking another W instead of a D or F?

Stilldreaming, you made my day a little brighter by saying that.🙂

ckd816, I would probably take a W unless your school has a grade forgiveness option. This is where you go ahead and take the grade for the class but put in an application to take the class again and have the "bad" grade subbed out for the new one. At my school we are given like one a year or something like that. They either take the higher grade or average the two, I can't remember.

The embarrassing part of my transcript is out of approximately 150 credit hours I have 11 W's and 5 C's (the C's were in psych courses) and now the C in Animal Physio.

I am also stubborn and refuse to take out a student loan right now so I have not been taking a full course load every semester for a while. I know that not being full time and the W's will come back to bite me if I get an interview this year. I know I can handle the stress of vet school, I just hope they will give me a chance. It's not going to be a walk in the park but I am ready to get my hands dirty!!

I think I need to try a Vermonster. This is the first time I have ever heard of it😀

I hope I would be considered a competitive applicant all other things aside. My hours are
~2,000 SA vet experience as an assistant/tech/kennel
~300 LA vet shadowing experience
~600 barn/riding instructor assistant
~200 avian zoo keeping experience

I withdrew from a summer course. It was my sister's wedding and being the maid of honor, I got too bogged down and behind in class. No biggie. I didn't even mention it on my app.

Yeah we all have our Achilles heels. In undergrad mine was a C in calculus. Now in grad school, it looks like a C in Human Neuroanatomy is going to ruin my otherwise 4.0 for the program. I love the professor -- she is actually the vet school anatomy prof as well -- and I have probably put in more work daily on that stupid class I am getting the C in than all my other 500+ level classes total this semester. To no avail, I have a 76%, just took the last test before the final this morning, and I doubt my grade went up any as a result of my preformance today. I got in this spring, so que sera, and hopefully I will not have to take another like class again soon. I am sure I will find plenty more weak spots in my intellect in the next 4 years to come. Also, I was never asked once about my calc grade at any of my interviews. Adcoms understand the concept of the white elephant class, they probably had one too. 😎 We can't win them all, but that does not mean we won't still try.

I went and talked to my professor today and he said he would allow me "sit" through the class again, listen to the lectures, retake the tests and use my lab grade to possibly raise my score. I think he is getting tired of seeing me in his office. The only problem is that it isn't offered again till spring🙁. So I will have already gotten my acceptance or denial by the end of that semester. I am going to do it anyway (you don't get an opportunity like that every day to improve your grade) just in case I do not get in so that it will be on next years application. 🙂

I do feel better about the situation, thanks to talking with everyone here and having such an awesome professor!

Wow, that is an awesome opportunity and you are wise to take advantage of it. You will rock it next time around. If you get in to vet school, great.....if not, it will definitely show your persistence.

Good job!

Be careful with this, since VMCAS explicitly asks for all post-secondary education. I don't know about any of the schools that don't require VMCAS, and I don't know if that is new as of the last app cycle.

Not sure if that was directed at me since I'm already in vet school... 😳 But what I meant was that I didn't list an explanation as to why I withdrew (sorry, should've made that clearer). I only had that one W on my entire transcript and it was a summer course and before the withdrawal deadline so it wasn't that big of a deal to me. But if you have 11 W's, I would definitely mention that in the explanation section. That might cause some questions from the adcom.

Sorry to confuse!

Makes far more sense that you didn't explain it vs didn't put it on. Someone mentioned before that they didn't list a CC that they didn't do well in (not during this thread), and I have seen others suggest just not mentioning some summer courses and such, which just seems like a bad idea, since VMCAS explicitly says to list all post secondary education (but I don't know if it said that in the past.)
