Hi,

I have a clean record in college--no IA in college-- but I did get in trouble in high school. I've learned from my mistakes since then and was wondering if it's necessary to report anything that happened in hs to DO medical schools? Is there any way of them finding out?

Thanks in advance for the help

AMCAS asks if we were the recipient of institutional action from any college/medical school and they specify that they only want stuff that happened post-secondary. I don't have to report anything to MD schools it seems.

I'm confused because for the AACOMAS they ask "Were you ever the recipient of any action for unacceptable academic performance, or were you ever the recipient of any action for conduct violations by any college or school?"

I've tried calling AACOMAS and some DO schools and the people at the AACOMAS office say they cannot advise on the matter. Someone at a DO school says they are looking for anything that will come up in a criminal background check. That's obviously not an issue for me because my reasons for getting in trouble in HS were academics related.

It seems fine for me not to report anything but I just want to be cautious because I don't want to get in trouble later on.

I just don't want to report anything that really will obviously hurt me if it's not necessary to report at all.

Do you think it would be okay to not report institutional action from high school to DO schools?

I thank you for taking your time to read this and help me.

You are correct. You don't have to report high school stuff. AMCAS and AACOMAS only care about undergrad IA's or criminal activity (misdemeanor and felonies) that would show up on a background check.

High school??? No one's going to care, unless it was a crime of violence against people.

It was for academic reasons (I reported it to my undergraduate college when applying), I was foolish but I've learned since then. I don't have any IAs in college which is good. So @Goro you're certain this is something I am not required to report (since the IA was from hs, and not college)?

I was really worried about this. I think DO schools should fix the wording of that question and specify it's referring to anything post secondary and anything related to criminal behavior. People just might think they want to know about a suspension from middle for skipping class!

Generally, our applicants aren't as anxious and don't need the clarification.
