Hey

My very 1st month in college I got on academic probation for doing something stupid. I didn't fail any classes and got a 3.6 (4.0 scale no A+=4.33) The circumstances of the probation are a little strange and I'd rather not disclose them here (nothing like cheating or dishonesty, just pure stupidity. I also had an A in that class but my grade was eventually lowered to a C because of what I did. It was a random core class I didn't not care about at the time). A bunch of my friends also went on probation for the same reason. cGPA is 3.9 (science GPA 4.0). This does not show on my transcript. Am I screwed nonetheless? What are the potential consequences of me not disclosing this? Would you disclose it? Am I even required to disclose it? How would you feel if you were an adcom?

If you really want advice about your situation, you need to actually describe your situation, not just say that you'd rather not.

From the AMCAS Instruction Manual (p.29)
Institutional Action
You must answer Yes to this question if you were ever the recipient of any institutional action resulting from unacceptable academic performance or a conduct violation, even if such action did not interrupt your enrollment or require you to withdraw. You must answer Yes even if the action does not appear on or has been deleted from your official transcripts due to institutional policy or personal petition.

If you answer Yes, you may use the space provided to explain; this space is 1325 characters or approximately one-quarter of a page in length.

If you are not certain whether or not you have been the subject of an institutional action, contact the registrar, student affairs officer, or other appropriate party at the institution for confirmation of your record.

Failure to provide accurate information in answering this question or, if applicable, in completing the form provided by the school, will result in an investigation. Medical schools require you to answer this question accurately and provide all relevant information. Medical schools understand that many individuals learn from the past and emerge stronger as a result. Full disclosure will enable the medical schools to more effectively evaluate this information within the context of your credentials.

Applicants who become the subject of an institutional action after certifying and submitting the AMCAS application must inform their designated medical school(s) within ten (10) business days of the date of the occurrence.

Disclose it. It happened freshman year, and if you have nothing else happen for the rest of your ugrad career, you should probably be ok.

Now, my answer assumes that the offense wasn't too bad. You said it wasn't cheating/dishonesty which is good, since those things can sink an application (depends on severity and time elapsed).

But, no one can give you any meaningful answer unless you disclose what you did.

OK. My friends and I were obnoxiously late to every single lecture so the instructor decided to cut our final grade and report us (or at least some of us...). Some girl complained about us being a little disruptive. This was pretty bad since we lived on campus and this was not even an early morning class. I'd like to stress that I am not usually that much of douche. I guess I just enjoyed living without parents a little too much. It was also a huge class so I thought that I was pretty well "hidden".

Yeah, that doesn't seem bad at all.

I would disclose it since it was formal. If schools found out, they would reject you or kick you out no matter how stupid your offense was.

Just disclose it and say what you learned from it. It happened freshman year, your more mature now, blah, blah, blah...

I think you'll be fine.

I took a class withh a kid who had an obnoxiously loud laugh. Like hurt your ears loud. I wanted to crotch punch him everyday. Completely irrelevant I suppose.
