Is there any guy who is interested in opening a drug store, I know there are many pharmacists here, but didnt see any post about opening drug stores. Pharmacists can be their own boss and make big money, so how about discussing the possibility of opening drug store. Do you have to join a chain store like walgreen or phagen pharmacy. But how much do you need to open a drug store, 1 million or 2 million dollars? And how much can you make per year? How many employees do you have to hire? How about the earning rate, is it 50% or how much? Is there anyone can shed some lights for those who interested? Thanks

I do not know how the hell drug stores make money. I'm undergoing chemo right now and need meds for home also. Well the price is $250 per fill, but aetna negotiated a price and they pay the pharmacy $36 and I pay $15. So thats a total of $51 for a $250 drug. How the hell is the pharm guy going to make money?!?!?!?!? Blows my mind.

Business Description:
This state-of-the art pharmacy is one of the largest "independents" in Colorado. Well established (over 50 years in business), this pharmacy operates from a modern 16,000 sf stand-along building located in the heart oif town with premium visibility and a huge parking lot. Over $9,000,000 of the total gross sales are generated by PRESCRIPTION and medical sales. This unique operation includes a SEPARATELY LICENSED "closed door" NURSING HOME PHARMACY, which serves (and has contracts with) over 15 major nursing homes and justice centers. This same Nursing Home Pharmacy also generates revenue from a state mandated counseling service. Seller maintains and operates an "IV" room and business, also. This unique pharmacy, in conjunction with (and underwritten by) a major university, also runs at their location an extensive one-on-one DIABETES education program provided by a pharmacy student and supervised by one of Seller's pharmacists. Seller provides a six day a week delivery service (and makes over 1,000 DELIVERIES PER WEEK). The company recently added a DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT division that SELLS and RENTS crutches, walkers, scooters, etc. This same DME unit also provides breast prosthetics, and blood pressure testing. This cutting edge pharmacy enjoys a tremendous reputation; with knowledgeable, experienced, and dedicated workforce in place. The firm employs 2 full-time and 1 part-time licensed pharmacists, plus MANY KEY TECHS in place. As owner also holds a Pharmacist License (but does not actively fill scripts), the business also utilizes a fully computerized SCRIPTPRO ROBOTIC that essentially adds "another pharmacist" to the staff. Thus, with 2.5 active, alive pharmacists, PLUS the Scriptpro System, this pharmacy has large growth capacity. Seller agrees that he is actually OVERSTAFFED (in back office and pharmacy) and 3 or 4 positions could (and should be) cut. The entire operation is superbly equipped and computerized. Opening on Sunday would generate an immediate source of additional revenue. The striking GIFT SHOP is known throughout this part of Colorado for its tremendous selection of jewelry, stationery, greeting cards, cosmetics, glassware, chinaware, dolls, toys, candles, linens, picture frames, artwork, books, and magazines. Located in the GIFT SHOP is a full official POST OFFICE, along with complete Western Union and UPS Centers. There is an "upscale country" feel to the Gift Shop section. Photo developing could be added as another source of additional revenue. All of the services detailed herein are operated under one roof!! Owner of business owns the real estate outside of this S-Corp, and would lease (or sell) the building to buyer of business. Seller(s) retiring, and will provide support and training through transition period.

Tenure Terms:
16,000 sf modern, stand alone building. Seller owns building-would sell or lease @ $7,000/month. Purchase price does NOT include price of building.

Reasons for Selling:
Retirement

Competition includes other small independents and Wal-Mart. They are no threat. As unlike this business, they do not provide delivery service, charge accounts, or many of the multitudes of services provided by the Seller.

Business Description:
This is a golden opportunity for an enterprising young pharmacist who is interested in owning and operating his/her own pharmacy. The business is 6 months in operation and is in process of ramping up. It is very important to note that the owner is not a pharmacist and runs the business in absentia. Located in Queens, it is impossible to imagine a retail store with a better location. Pedestrian traffic is intense on this major thoroughfare with mass transit all around the site. The store has an 11 year lease which carries a monthly rent with a huge discount to the market in that specific area. In other words, the rent is very cheap!! With such an inexpensive asking price this has to be seen to be appreciated. Ref: 3649CT

Some of the price/earnings ratios seem ridiculously low, anyone want to hazard a guess as to why they are that way?

A lot of them seem like getting a bank loan to buy one would be a good idea if they are really as profitable and stable as I would imagine.

I mean, if there's a stock out there on an exchange that has a p/e ratio of 3, I'd buy up whatever I could.

Dwindling insurance reimbursement vs. rising cost of pharmacy goods

Comparing the P/E of a private company you are running with a public company is not meaningful in any way. P/E ratios that low for a private company don't seem terribly outside the norm - indeed, if you go look on the businessesforsale.com site that those came from, you'll see that most businesses being sold there have P/E ratios of less than 10, often less than 5, and in some cases close to 1.

In declining or unstable industries, the P/E will be even lower. During the dot.com bust, I picked up several smallish web properties at P/E's less than 1. Unfortunately, the seller is generally more likely to know about declining revenues in the industry in general, and in his or her specific practice.

I've never owned a pharmacy, but I have owned and run several other businesses. Running a business, even taking over an existing, profitable one, is not easy. The significantly lower P/E ratios show that. When you invest in Pfizer, you don't work for them. You don't have your life tied up in Pfizer. You don't get nearly as hurt if Pfizer fails.

It isn't all bad though - its how I'm paying for Pharmacy school without borrowing money, if I get in 🙂

Actually, in the description, it says 6 months 🙂
I wonder how much inventory there is, as its on sale for $140000.
