Studying the biology section right now, one thing I'm noticing is the lack of emphasis on diseases and pathology. Looking at the 2019 DAT guide and my study material, only the basics are covered on them. Should I go out of my way to look up some diseases?

edit: The most exposure I'm getting with diseases right now is DAT Destroyer, which is very helpful.

My Bio Dynamite Bio Review covers all the needed diseases that you will encounter on this exam. I have created a well balanced pathology section.

Glad you are finding the Destroyer helpful.

I don't think the above response really answers your question, but I'd say no, there aren't really many diseases you are expected to know. I'd focus instead on patterns of inheritance and genetics in regards to that (like Punnett squares). The DAT guide is the best thing to figure out what kinds of things you could be tested on, and diseases aren't really listed anywhere on there. You'll definitely learn tons of diseases in dental school though 😛

I think anything is possible, but like artist said, there probably aren’t many that you need to know and I don’t think the test makers would expect you to know very many diseases. The ones that you definitely should know are the X linked diseases such as color blindness, muscular dystrophy, and hemophilia.

If I were you, I would focus on more high yield topics. But if you have the time it might be a good idea to look over some of the diseases listed in the destroyer notes.
