Howdy everyone. Well as you can ascertain from my title I was dismissed from my DO school. It has been an emotional roller coaster to say the least. The reason being was simply grades. My first year ( the basic sciences ) I performed well. Not top teir, but admirable. Between first and second year, I get married. Start of second year my grades slipped dramatically. It wasn't that i did not "get" the information, it just kept coming all at once. I couldn't get a firm grasp on anything without another slipping out. After a LONG and drawn out process with Student Progress Committee (January) , and appeals (March 13th), the decision to dismiss was finally upheld. Between those two steps i had a Neuropsych eval completed and received numerous recommendation. None of which the appeals committee agreed would help. My questions are

1) if I really want to continue, (aside from retaking the MCATS) what courses should I attempt? I did WELL in my basics sciences in year 1

2) I completed all the required classes and such for OPP so what can I do with this knowledge?

3) Am I just suffering Stockholm syndrome if I go back for more?

Very sorry to hear. What are you thinking of doing now, and where?

1. Isolate your weak subjects and take focused graduate level courses in them.

2. Not much except work on family members for fun

3. No, but your heart has to be in it 100% and you must own whatever went wrong and take big steps to work on it.

Good luck!

What effect (if any) did being married have on this? Some people struggle once they get married and find it to be a much bigger 'burden' than they expected.

Bones here should be your inspiration.

It can be done. Look how far he's come.

Interesting that Nova would dismiss that quickly. You either failed everything starting second year or they'e really tightened things up. Or you really pissed someone off.

They did you a favor, trust me. If not talk to people they let repeat M1 twice and M2 twice and then dismissed. Now you can think about shorter alternatives.

I am very sorry to hear of your troubles. Unfortunately, not everyone can be a doctor. My own school takes a dim view of rejects from other programs and so I don't think you're likely to get much love in a second go around.

I'd heard of dismissed students being successful in being reinstated after they tried appealing to their University's Provost, President or Chancellor (or whatever the CEO position is called).

Keep in mind also that struggling students are the ones that fail Boards.

It's a blessing in disguise; pursue another career path. Medicine ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Was dismissed after failing 3 classes in 2nd year. Got help and petitioned to be re-admitted. Succeeded in getting back in. Did great in my 1st and 2nd year classes and passed all 3 parts of comlex on 1st attempt. Matched my first choice residency and will graduate in May.

It CAN be done.

Congrats and well done! I'd imagine you are an outlier for those dismissed but way to go!
