sorry guys, don't mean to bother but this is a quote I got from one of the pre-dent threads "Just make sure you get a DDS instead of a DMD, because DMD's can't perform surgery and they have to get a DDS to sign their prescriptions for them."

is this true? I thought they were both the same

I honestly almost don't want to answer because I've read this question so many times. Do a search or read the FAQ section. It's been covered at least 50 times. No, they are no different. Whoever said that is either pulling your leg or is an idiot and should not go to dental school.

That's what I heard from a friend who's dad is the pharmacist for a DMD who has to get a DDS to sign his prescriptions. And my friend is really smart so he should know.

DDS — doctor of dental surgery
DMD — doctor of dental medicine

Indicates the degree awarded upon graduation from dental school to become a general dentist. There is no difference between the two degrees; dentists who have a DMD or DDS have the same education. Universities have the prerogative to determine what degree is awarded. Both degrees use the same curriculum requirements set by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation.

you are lying to yourself.. you buddy is not that smart. and i think your friend's dad is a different type of pharmacist and one of his customers happens to be called Dj MD
