We were just given another computer-based task to complete: Defense Medical Human Resource System Internet: DMHRSi. Apparently we have to enter timecards every two weeks logging how many hours we work. This is not the GME required hours tracking, since all staff, active duty and contractors are required to do it. Does anyone know what this is all about? Just more busy work?

My understanding is that it's busy work. Keep in mind that everyone has to do these training logs, corpsman, nurses, etc. I don't think the Navy cares how much I work - just so long as the ACGME is happy and keeps giving their accreditation.

In my department, there is a corpsman who filled out MEPRS (old man-power time card system) for all the residents and staff every month logging 320 clinic/OR hours each. I have completed the training, but hope that we can sensibly bypass the insanity rountinely inflicted on those who's title describes their live-in relationship with the hospital.

not just busy work, they are eventually going to use this as another metric to determine if your workcenter's work load is subsantial enough to warrant the number of people there.

So essentially they will take the numbers from DMHRSi, and compare those to RVUs and determine that you don"t really need all the people to get the job done> and then they will pull people out of your workcenter without ever having stepped foot in your door

also they won"t do away with MEPRS until someone on high is sufficiently certain that they are getting the "correct" information

So don't count on any of the reporting requirements going away anytime soon.

DMHRSi is the MEPRS time card of the future. What is MEPRS? It's how DoD decides whether it is fiscally feasible to outsource your position to a contractor, convert to a civilain GS provider, or the reverse.

Other current uses, depending upon what branch of the military you serve, includes managing your local internal assignments, supervisors, and myriad of other personal information. Future uses for DMHRSi include using the system to track your Education & Training requests and completions.

Don't knock it. It's shiny and new and perhaps has a few bugs but I remember when CHCS first came out. The rollout of DMHRSi has been much better than that. As this system matures and becomes deployed thoughout the MHS, it will only get better.

And besides, for all the complaining, once you have a template established, it takes less than two minutes to enter the time.

Oh, and as far as GME/GDE, nothing has changed. Time is still entered monthly and DMHRSi is smart enough to know when the incorrect percentage of time has been entered.

So, salute the flag and carry on!
 
Then get out and become a contracted physician. As for MERPS going away, it won't. But what has (or will) go away are the monthly time sheets.

MOST NAVY COMMANDS WHO HAVE DMHRSI ARE STILL DOING BOTH THE MONTHLY TIMESHEETS AND DMHRSI BECAUSE THEY CAN'T OR WONT DO DMHRSI CORRECTLY. UNTIL EVERYONE IS ONBOARD AND USING DMHRSI BOTH SYSTEMS WILL BE USED. p.s. You and your shipmates should just suck it up and get it done.
 
I hate it.

Our network is slow. I have a variety of collateral duties which I try to fill out accurately so my RVU's don't nosedive, but they don't have any codes for them. Then the "project code" changes randomly and you have to re-do your whole template.
 
We have been doing this for over 2 years now. It is a pain in the a**, as numbers constantly change, God forbid you work out at a clinic for some reason......

What if we don't do it?
I think I made some templates awhile ago, but haven't touched it since and dont plan on it. Someone else can enter it from the other two places that I record hours.
