Hi all, I desperately need help in terms of deciding to choose between TUCOM and DMUCOMS. Any of the TUCOM or DMU students out there please let me know about your experiences. I want to do residency in CA in the future and wanted to know that if i go to DMU what are my chances of getting residency in CA and if I go to Touro are those chances increased or stay the same. Plus if anyone from TUCOM can give me a feedback on the recent rumors about students loosing their rotation sites!!! I would really appreciate it.

Do a search for DMU vs KCOM, that has my pro and cons for DMU as I saw them during my visits to DMU. I have friends that go to TUCOM, and have talked to ER faculty at UC Davis who say that there are some very bright people from TUCOM. I know of 2 DO residents from DMU at UC Davis 1 anest. and 1 Neurology. Hope that helps but I also know a TUCOM grad who is doing ER at LA County/USC. I think that no matter where you go, if you are a good student and do well on the boards (COMLEX/USMLE) and you have good grades on rotation them you should be fine. Just my $0.02. Hope it helps.

More TUCOM students will rotate thru the California hospitals than students from out of state. As a percentage of students from TUCOM getting to match into California residencies, I would say the numbers speak for themselves. I have consistantly seen over the last three years that about 40% of TUCOM grads are landing CA residencies.

If you are trying to stay in California for residency then I would take a look at the match lists for each school and see how many as a percentage of the class are going to California programs.

Besides, if you don't want your spot at TUCOM, I know 5 people on the waitlist that want it.

Yup, maysqr may be right that "numbers speak for themselves" .... then I would like to point out that not everyone that goes to DMU wants to go to California.... thus showing that not many DMU grads go to Cali.... A majority of students from DMU are from the midwest or east and therefore indicates the higher percentage of DMU grads going to those regions....

You can get a list of the match for the 2003 graduating class from the DMU Alumni Association and I'm sure you'll see docs doing their residency in Cali.... I know of one personally that is doing their residency in UCDavis Physical Medicine and Rehab.... He told me that he did a rotation at Stanford University and got a solid recommendation that probably landed his spot at UCDavis.

Anyway, the point is no matter where you go as long as you do a rotation at the residency program you'd like to get into then you have a shot at going back to California.... granted you do well in your boards, of course....

Although, I do have to agree.... proximity is the key....

Hey all thanks a lot for all your informative replies, i have finally decided to go to DMU COMS-----as much as i like to stay in CA----I have come up with a conclusion that I would love my medical studies at DMU----although both schools are very good but DMU felt the place where I would fit in and after replies from you all I figured that if I do good in med school and boards offcourse i should be able to get a spot in CA residency----and who knows how life will turn out by that time!! Anyways I am really excited about starting med school!! good luck to you all out there trying to get in to med schools of ur choice!!
