Okay, so I know that these threads are getting old but I need some help quick.

I am all ready and set to go to DMU (osteopathic) in a couple of weeks, I have an apartment leased, deposit paid, etc.

However, I got an e-mail this morning that I have been taken off the waitlist and offered a spot in WSU.

My husband and I own a house in Roseville, about 20 min. away from WSU. Also the cost would be about half for Wayne. Also both of our families are in the area...nice if we decide to have kiddies.

I like the osteopathic philosophy but I also want to be a surgeon. I feel that I can get a quality education at both institutions. If I go to DMU I would want to return to MI for clinicals and my residency. DMU can't guarantee that I get all of my clinicals in MI. But Wayne is in the heart of the Detroit Medical Center. You can stand in the doorway and see three hospitals, a cancer center, and the eye institute...

Any thoughts? Thanks alot everyone.

The points that will tip your decision should be that you live 20 min away from WSU, the cost would be half of DMU, and your family is in the area if you go to WSU.

Given the above, I would go to WSU in a heartbeat. 👍

Go to WSU for all the reasons you have listed(esp the money part). You can buy a book on osteopathic principles and practices with all the money you will be saving if you are so inclined.

Bump.... I think you already know the answer to your question!

imo, wsu should be your choice. deposits and such may not mean much in the end.

yay to wsu
nay to dmu

GL on ur decision

Go to WSU... especially if you plan on having kids. That was the main reason I chose AZCOM- my parents are nearby and really help with childcare. It's a great stress reliever to know that while I am busy all day at school that my children are being loved by their grandparents and not in some anonymous daycare center.

The money is another motivating factor.

Good luck in your first year of school!

one major factor to consider is the financial situation taht WSU is in. The DMC nearly shut down last year, after having to have the state of Michigan step in to prevent a bankruptcy. I know the DMC is in a crisis right now and I would make sure that things are secure before you pursue WSU.

I would agree 100%. Congratulations!! 😀

DMU is a great place to go to school, but it?s hard to beat family being close for the support, and cheaper school. If you feel like WSU is the kind of school you?ll be happy at, then I say go for it.
Good Luck

do you really believe DMC is just going to shut down? that's pretty stupid! don't mean to sound mean or anything, but changes are a part of everthing and everyone! If WSU is where you will be accommadated, then I say go for it. what can you lose, you're saving money and you'll have support of family. I can see if it was just you and your husband, or even just you for that matter, but you need to make provisions for the entire family. good luck with the decision, you'll be just fine!!

DMU is a great school, I go there (will be a 2nd year). However, seems to me that you know what to do, as people here seemed to have backed up. I don't know much about WSU, but as long as it will provide a good education, I think you might be happier there considering the circumstances. Good luck!

sistahnik,

I think its funny that you say things like that when it seems to be evident that you are unfamiliar with what you are talking about. My mom is a physician at DMC and sits on the trustees board. My Dad is also a physician at Harper, and according to them, the DMC would have shut down last year if the state had not stepped in at the last minute. They were actively pursuing bankruptcy options when Governor Granholm's administration stepped in. So, No I am not saying that WSU is in jeopardy of losing their students or accreditation, but I would consider this an issue as most students apparently did this year.....with WSU's admissions numbers down this year. So, if I were you I would probably go to WSU...but I simply mentioned their crises as something to think about.......

Why not go to WSU, I'm an immediate alternate at DMU, I could get you spot! But, of course do you what you think is best...

Bigdreamer, I will be taking the spot at Wayne. So there is a spot opening up, someone should get a call Mon or Tues. I also have an apartment at the Imperial Grand leased that will be coming available. A one bedroom on the second floor, it is right across the street from the school...so if anyone is interested in the apartment...call Venture Management.

DMU is a great school, I hope that whoever gets my spot will be just as happy there as I would have been.

Good luck, BD! Hope it works out for ya! 🙂

OK michmaki, your mom works there and your dad is on the board!!!! 🙄 hooray!! well I used to work for those same physicians and quite a few of my family members work for dmc!! and yes, I do know what I'm talking about. that was my whole point, you think the state was going to let them shut down or even go bankrupt? I don't think so!! any way, my opinion is just that, I'm not on the board and neither are you, so all we have is our opinion!! have a great day! 👍
