Pretty much that. The DO school (of the DO schools I was accepted) I've chosen is sending me all these forms and info and financial aid forms to fill out, but at the same time my MD waitlist (which I'm really hoping for) says fill our financial aid forms too!

So the idea is to fill out all the necessary forms for the DO school (obviously to assure I'll be going somewhere) and the MD school just in case... but what happens if MD calls me over summer and says I'm in and I go...

what happens with DO financial aid? This seems like a paperwork/red tape/whatever NIGHTMARE... anyone gone through this waiting game? I know this usually happens for all MD's or all DO applicants but even financial aid seems different between DO/MD. argh, what kind of mess am I looking at???

thanks!

I'm in the same situation....except I already declined the caribbean acceptances.....

But.....I guess you should just fill everything out.

I'm really wondering about registration....what happens if we register at the DO school and the MD acceptance comes last minute......would we still be allowed to leave and enroll in the allopathic school?

I do have to say that I loved the osteopathic school though, and the clinical rotations there are outstanding....I think I would choose the osteopathic school over some of the allopathics I applied to. ( some of you will think that is crazy, but I've done quite a bit of research on this, and the residencies that the students get at my osteopathic school are at some of the top places in the country)

yeah, thanks for the post... interested to see if anyone has figured this out. I was going to go to the schools personally but its kind of hard to explain my situation without sending the wrong message...

I thought I'd start here and see what suggestions people have.

Its nice to see someone else in my situation. As we all know, misery enjoys company. 😉

You can still withdrawl from DO school up to the day of classes, but you don't get your money back..... and you still have to fill out the FAFSA. Just have it sent to all your schools.......

even though I know everything can still happen up till the first day of classes, if I haven't heard from my MD waitlist one week prior to classes starting to LECOM then it doesn't matter just to be safe.

IF I hear, worst case senario, 2 weeks before classes started, I have all my fin. aid. forms filled in for LECOM, get the call from the MD school, then I call LECOM tell them I want to withdraw? Who do I call about cancelling the financial aid?? I want to make sure those loans aren't disbursed to LECOM and I don't have to pay them back or something...

I think despite MD/DO student loans aren't disbursed until first day of classes anyway right? Thats why its safe to say up till the first day of classes because if I pull out, they don't request and I don't get money for THAT school...

just making sure this is crystal clear, no monetary mistakes, no loop holes or cracks to fall through.

waitlists are a godsent and tool of the devil all wrapped into one...

Don't worry about it. If the money comes to LECOM, you just pay it back...there is no penalty to pay back loans early (unless there are some origination fees...a few hundred bucks at most). They can't make you pay for a school that you do not attend. Fill out any and all forms from the schools at which you are interested. Be sure the FAFSA goes to all the schools towhich you are interested. The school at which you attend the first day of orientation/instruction is the school to which you are obligated to pay.
