My question is with the huge possibility of people lying on the AMCAS, do the adcoms check certifications like EMT-B certification.

i HIGHLY doubt it. but your interviewer could ask to see to see your cert card, you never know, but still extremely unlikely.

I agree that it is very unlikely that they check it...so unlikely that I should just say "no".

But an EMT-B cert. is nothing to brag about anyways because everyone has it. If you are going to lie, make it something amazing.

p.s. I do not support lying on AMCAS

in all honesty, the only way they could check would be if they had your NREMT or state #

EMT-B is worthless unless it's associated with a significant clinical/volunteer experience, which would have references, which could be checked out.

Actually, to verify NREMT status only requires legal name & registered state of residence. You can verify status here.

Nevertheless, I agree EMT-B licensure is only relevant if one has experience using it (i.e., it is only valuable insofar as it is very helpful for gaining good clinical experience).

No. I would imagine that most of them don't care whether you are certified as an EMT at all. They might care about your experiences as one, but like the rest of your experiences, they aren't going to waste time making phone calls to check it out.

Of course, if you got accepted, and it turned out you lied somehow (not that it would likely come up, but it's more likely then than in an application) you very well could get dismissed. It'd be a stupid thing to lie about anyway, with the almost minimal risk, because it just isn't impressive to schools.

actually, that site will only cough up a list of people who are on file with the NREMT and the towns they registered from. To check the status of a specific cert, you would need the cert #.

Lying about having an EMT-B license is totally not worth it. Not that I would condone lying about anything on your AMCAS because of the ridiculously severe consequences if you were ever found out, but an EMT-B license is one notch above touting that you "volunteer".

(coming from a person who has his EMT-B license)
