I just got my MCATs back and was worried because I went to take the test with a terrible migraine. I ended up with a 24 but have a 3.79 GPA (3.4 Science) and have a B.S in Biology, a B.S. in Psychology, and am finishing a M.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology. I am applying to D.O schools but AACOMAS applications are running like 2 weeks behind schedule (I submitted in mid August and its stilli being processed). Has anyone been admitted with similar scores, I am really nervous about getting invitations for interviews and admission.

Thanks!!!
Allie

Sure there are people admitted with similar stats. I believe the average MCAT score for DO matriculates is about 26...you're not far off.

I have seen similar stats but was wondering what other people thought as we tend to see what we want to see and overlook what we dont want to

25/3.88 here

The rest of your application will really dictate how far you go.

Consider retaking if you know you can do better

We have very similar stats. 3.88/3.88 GPA.

OP, I think you got a good shot.

My stats are pretty close to yours and I got into a school. I think the earlier you apply, the better shot you have.

Keep in mind that academics are not everything (but still very important); if you have some good volunteering, clinical time, research, and other experiences, the admissions people will like you more.

Your GPA will help as it does show you are able to handle the classes. Having said that, I have been told they will question you if you never took a full schedule as they will then think the only reason you did well in your classes was because you only took a few at a time.

Be prepared to explain why you got what you did on the MCAT (I had to) - having a migraine (as true as it may be) will not fly during an interview. If you did not understand something or have not been exposed to it for a while, you should just tell them and be specific.

Finally, 24 is not necessarily a low score, it is actually around average. There are a few schools, such as WVSOM that even list 24 as competitive on their website - go figure.

Good luck and best wishes to you!

Unfortunately, this is true. Don't drop this excuse in an interview.
