From reading the med school rejection thread I have an idea of some of the shcools that send rejections... but for other schools that have already started to interview... do they not send you any letter till May?

I mean if you submitted your secondary applications early and havent' heard anything, then would it be safe to assume you didn't make the cut with the other applicants that sent theirs in early too... and therefore, are on "indefinite hold"? 😕

(I'm specifically talking about schools like JHU, Baylor, Albert Einstein)

I'm not sure about those specific schools that you listed, but yes, some schools very callously fail to send post-secondary rejection letters. I think it's rather bad etiquette on their part, but what can we do. Post-interview though, I'll wager all schools will reply.

But in terms of giving up hope: I wouldn't until say November or December, at least, from what I've heard. Some people are "complete" in July and get interviews in like January. Perhaps schools set aside some candidates in a borderline pool - they'll interview 'em if nothing better comes along, otherwise they'll cruelly reject them after 6 months of keeping them in limbo. 🙁

if you aren't a texas resident i suggest you give up on baylor at this time. i have higher stats than their averages along with lots of EC's and volunteering and i haven't heard anything in over 2 months... that's a rejection!

Not necessarily. Don't give up hope!

I've always gotten rejection letters, presecondary, postsec, and post interview-whatever. Most schools give a timeline-but some of them say they can hold your app at any stage in the application process (like MSU for example).

Here's my golden advice: call the school and ask them the status of your application and ask if you are on hold.

I hate it when they hold your application forever-that really sucks.

They never send the rejection letter? Really, like who?

Harvard has definitely done that... maybe one or two other top-tier schools as well, judging from comments on MDapps. Snooty people 😉
