I know in certain countries , Canadian and Australia for instance, give their medical students free school bags to their students. It's part boasting symbol, and part free swag.

I understand this may vary by state.

Sadly I didn't get any free backpacks. I wanted a cool bag with lots and lots of flair to put on it 🙁

This is the only reason to go to medicL school. Or any school.

I probably wouldn't use a free bag because they are never up to my standards. I'm sure you could always buy one or buy a t-shirt.

All I would care about if there is a gym and a nursing school (to get me a honey) nearby.

Well I'm not a medical student, but as a pharmacy student I tend to stick to Ninja Turtles. But I had to buy my own swag. Wasn't given to me....

So do you guys have a school bag ceremony first year? Or do you just wear them around on your clinical rotations?

Serious reply...we got a coffee mug and some folders...a bag would have been nice though.

I will go to the school of the first sdn'er who reveals his school has bags

You mean you are willing to be a walking billboard for your school and pay for the privilege of attending there besides. If I'm wearing a logo, someone is paying me to do so

The schools themselves don't provide the bags. They are usually donations from a financial services company and the advertising is usually in the form of some patches or something. You wouldn't be paid, but it's free. The bags I've seen are of good quality.

I've been in Canada long enough to answer that question! The students are intrinsically enthusiastic about the bags. The medical students wear them with pride. In Canada, the medical schools are often near the undergraduate institutions so they often bump into regular undergrads or other professional students. It serves as an identifier. It's also a snobby point of pride among Canadian medical students.

The bag itself is iconic and representative of Canadian medical students. All Canadian students receive one, and the color designates the year of admission. It becomes a cult symbol.

The website that provides the bag has a Facebook page, where students take pictures of the bag .

As laughable and ridiculous as it seems, I am not making this up. See for yourself: https://www.facebook.com/MDPhysicianServices

I am glad there's no American equivalent. It all seems a little "douchey"

If a medical school I get accepted at thinks its a good idea to give fanny packs, I would have to consider withdrawing my acceptance.

Vc7777.... A laptop from CCLCM!? Tell me more!

In select circumstances, fanny packs are rad...

Fight me.

Ohio State gave us all a College of Medicine messenger/laptop bag (and pen!) on interview day!!! I did try using the bag for a while because I had been "borrowing" a laptop bag from a family member to use as a backpack.

The Ohio State College of Medicine pen broke literally the first time I picked it up -- seconds into interview day. The messenger bag lasted less than two months before the stitching that held the shoulder strap to the bag totally failed.

I love OSU College of Medicine, but maybe just hold the swag until at least Second Look so that you can spend the same money on half the number of units -- so that the school isn't being advertised using the world's cheapest products(TM).

That exhausts my knowledge of medical school promotional swag.

The End.
