it can really depend on the size of the pathology practice, the number of beds in the hospital and the activity of the surgeons in your hospital. historically our practice has been 730-430...rarely 500pm...BUt a few years ago the hospital courted a Oncologic surgeon who does big ticket surgerys along with a new Thoracic surgeon. Both of these surgeosn now do 14-16 hours surgeries.....like whipples.....Since we do not have a residency program and the pathologists in the group cover one hospital for two weeks at a time, it means we are now pulling 730am to 8 or 9 pm when we get that hospital on our rotation....Needless to say, The group is not happy...especially since we were just informed that they are going to get a neurosurgeon on staff. Reimbursements do not allow us to hire another pathologist, believe it or not
