If I applied to BA/MD programs as a high school senior 5 years ago, does that count as officially applying to the medical school? (I got into 2, didn't get into others). There is that question on AMCAS that asks if you have applied to med school before... does that mean only in the traditional sense, i.e. via AMCAS, etc? Does anyone have any experience with this from the last cycle? Any advice will be appreciated thanks!

i got into USC's ba/md program out of high school but wasn't 100% sure about wanting to be a physician and so i decided against it. when i applied to med school, it didn't even occur to me that the ba/md thing would count as having applied before, so i didn't even think about checking that box. i did, however, mention the acceptance in my personal statement (incorporated along the lines of being really committed to this path after 4 years of exploring lots of options), and no one ever asked me about it in interviews except in a positive way. now, i'm a soon-to-be 3rd year in my top choice medical school, so it definitely didn't hurt. good luck!

i called amcas last year about this because i had applied to two of those programs (and been accepted by one). They said that it doesnt count because you didnt use AMCAS before. So i didnt say that I had applied before and no one said anything to me. In fact, AMCAS people said it would be problematic if you DID check yes because schools would assume that you had applied during or after college.

Hi - You don't need to put that you applied before.
