I read on one of the ortho program websites that Part 1 scores are usually only valid for 5 years. Can anyone validate this? I wrote the exam 6 years ago.

"The National Board Dental Examination is intended to fulfill or partially fulfill the written examination requirement, but acceptance of National Board scores is completely at the discretion of the individual state. A state may place any limit on acceptance of National Board scores that it deems appropriate. For example, some states accept National Board scores only if earned within the last five to 15 years."

Florida is 10.

As far as I know, you still have to take Part II within 5 years of taking Part I to have those scores count. What states do with the scores as far as their individual licensure processes varies, but the ADA (at least when I took Part I) validates the scores for Part I for 5 years. This is important for me to know, as I'm in a PhD program and took Part I in 2004 and will do Part II this fall, in 2008. In your case, I'd simply call the ADA and find out what they actually say for your situation. I'l be willing to do a lot to avoid taking Part I again 🙂 Good Luck!
