DO Degree name to be changed??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You know, I always thought that "Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine" sounded cool and prestigious, but when put into letters D.O.M., it just doesn't seem to work😀 . Oh well.

OMD is already taken - Doctor of Oriental Medicine

I'm perfectly fine w/ the letters DO.

Unfortunately the osteopaths in other countries (non-USA) also use the abbreviation DO (diplomat of Osteopathy) so there is confusion among the public and reluctance w/ foreign government in granting full practice rights to US-trained DOs.

Anyway, letters don't mean a thing - like the change from LLB to JD - didn't change a thing.

But I would consider getting a Doctor of Oriental History degree. Then I could be

Group Theory, DOH
or
Group Theory, D'OH
or
Group Theory, D'oh!!!

hehe - that would be cool 🙂
OR get a optometry degree after medical school
Group Theory, DOOD
hehe - just showing how ridiculous the letters after the name is 🙂

I heard the MDO thing a while ago from someone who is very influential in the profession (but I don't think they'll change). Everyone has their own opinion on whether it should change or not. As long as you're a good physician who really cares.
