Do dentists...

Stupid question.

Would a cardiologist perform open-heart surgery on himself? That might prove challenging.

I think it would be pretty fun/interesting to see if I could do a filling on say 24/25 on myself 😛

Or if I really let my teeth decay I could always try an RCT aha!

hmmm, I might. i already do my own below the gum line cleaning. 🙂

certainly because open-heart surgery mostly requires the patient to be unconscious. run of the mill dentistry is a lil easier.

Also, all you had to say was "they see another dentist". You don't have to verbally belittle someone/something just because you think it's stupid, even if it is. Take the high road.

see another dentist when they need dental work done? Couldn't they just do it themselves in the mirror?
There was an episode on Ripley's Believe it or not ages ago when someone did a root canal treatment on themselves. :xf:

It is a bit difficult for dentist to recieve dental care. I have the hygienist clean and examine my teeth, but I need to find a dentist to change out some of my older restorations. I think there is a bit of an competition thing and I must travel a good distance to be seen, and have not gotten up too it. I did see one dentists in my area, but he would not see me for months to complete my care. I doubt he is that busy. I would not want to see a specialist for restorative care.

i would imagine that it would be pretty difficult.

why go through all that trouble? my dentist that i shadowed went to another dentist to get his teeth done.

lol when you become a dentist and try it on yourself. let us know how it went. 🙂

Well I'm not even a dental student so I admit I'm pretty ignorant. i just wanted to know the norm for certain procedures.

dont know if this is the norm or not, but the the associate at the place i work for reprep for for his 8-9 veneers. the hygienist that also works there said one of the other periodontist she works there did his own extraction. according to her the perio guy doesnt trust other dentist works.

You might be able to do a class V on 8 or 9 on yourself but as a dentist if you have decay there then you probably shouldn't be a dentist! You generally have a bunch of dentist friends from school, just have one of them do your work.

Boy, now that's irony at work.

It really depends on the procedure. My dad has extracted his own tooth before but he had his hygienist do the anesthetic so it wasn't completely solo. I clean my own teeth but only polishing and scaling the anteriors with a sickle. I would NEVER scale my posterior teeth. Too dangerous.

Cardiologists don't perform open-heart surgery bro.

Give the kid a break - he/she is only 17 yo, so it is ok that he/she is ignorant about the health professions at this point (as long as he/she will admit it.)
