I'm not sure where I stand; I'm not sure if I should even bother applying the upcoming cycle.

Assuming I have decent extracurriculars, recommendations and p.s., with the stats below, do I even have a chance?

cGPA 3.08
sGPA 2.86

MCAT 36

What if I take a postbac for one semester and raise it up to?

cGPA 3.15
sGPA 3.03

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Great MCAT score. But what an alarmingly low sGPA. You are a person for whom a SMP (Special Masters Program) would be perfect, if you want to go to an allopathic (MD) med school. This would take a year or two of additional work, and they're expensive. But if you excel, many have linkages into med schools. Read further on this at: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forumdisplay.php?f=71

If you have recent good coursework a good explanation for your low grades, and good ECs, you might (might) be considered by a less-selective school (particularly your state school, if you have one). You could also apply to osteopathic (DO) med schools and get consideration.

can you do a whole year of a post-bacc instead of just one semester?

that sub-3.0 science gpa is really painful

MilkmanAl had very similar stats and I am pretty sure he only got into his state school (Arkansas or something...maybe it was not his home state I forget...)

Point is it will be tough especially since there are probably gpa cutoffs at most schools you will be applying to.

If I were honest I would say that a real allopathic Med school is probably a long shot.

You might try DO school or...if you have a sufficient supply of hawaiian T-shirts you might try the caribbean (JK probably don't go there)

I would do whatever it takes to get the gpa up because your MCAT is golden. I would do a post-bac till you have about a 3.2 which should give you a shot at a state or low to mid level private school.

BOOM!
