Do I go to post bac, is there really any chance at this point?

Hey there, I'm a third year student now, and during my first year I failed my second semester due to having to work full time to pay my own rent and tuition and I couldn't handle it well, while taking a full time course load. I ended up moving back home and transferring from a top public school so I wouldn't have to worry about rent. (My parents can't and won't help me financially) I've 4.0'd every semester since, and have retaken my second semester of my freshman year and if I keep this up, I could end up graduating wth a 3.77. I'm signing up for mcat classes, but I've heard that my they won't replace my grades for that second semester that I failed. At this point, do I even stand a chance? I also have ECs. I don't know what path to take at this point.

I really don't want to become anything else but a physician 🙁

They won't replace your grades. They calculate them right in with the rest of your grades. Why didn't you withdraw from those classes? Any chance you could petition for a retroactive withdrawal?

What is your actual gpa including the fails?

Yes, you still have a chance. Your excellent performance shows that the failing year was a fluke. I wish that you had the sense ot withdraw from classes when it was obvious you were doing poorly instead of trying to bulldoze your way through.

Perhaps you can ask for retroactive withdrawals?

I wish I did withdrawl from the classes, I even went against advice from my psychiatrist who had advised me to take a hardship withdrawal. Would I petition it from my new university or my old one?

No I'm asking if i should just do post bac after I graduate to make up for the grades that I had my first year, since they won't do the recount

What is your total GPA and sGPA? if it is 3.77 even accounting for the failed classes then you need not worry about a post bac, and just apply. We need the real numbers before a meaningful conversation can occur.

Speaking from experience on admissions committee, you'll definitely be ok. Just make sure to explain it in your PS and app. Stories that show resilience and improvement get good marks.

You realize most MD matriculants have below a 3.77, right.......?

No I meant when doing grade replacement it's a 3.7, without it I just calculated it's a 3.1 (I re did the semester I flunked ) and sgpa is a 3.7, None of the credits that I had initially taken and had failed were pre requisites or science courses.

Try to talk to your original school, explain that situation and see if they'd be willing to give you a retroactive withdraw. You've got nothing to lose.
That aside 3.1 is low but not so low you'd get screened out. Your trends help out a lot and this is a good situation for a school to accept someone below their 10%
That said, you want to apply with the strongest app you possibly can so taking an extra year and doing a post bacc might be smart.
