I have very low GPA (3.06), and low MCAT (28: P9, B11, V8). But I have 3 years of clinical research. I have lots of patient contact, observed over 70 surgeries, and have 2 years of bench research with 1 publication. I'm working on 2 more manuscripts right now and I will be first author. I've applied to 40 schools and I have 25 secondaries (I think most of them are automatic)... I also have a have community service experience at a third world country.

I'm worried to death right now!!

I don't know. It seems people on this board have gotten in with worse so you're probably ok! It depends alot on where you applied I would think.

If you're applying to MD schools, I'd say you have a very slight chance at some of them. Your EC's are pretty decent, but what's really holding you back is your gpa and mcat. Did you apply to or do you mind applying to DO schools? I think those schools are more oriented toward clinical experience and their gpa cut off is a little lower. However, you would still have to raise your gpa about .2 or .3 to become very competitive to DO. What schools did you apply to? Who knows though, if you applied broadly your chances do go up and you might get lucky. If you don't get in this year, do a post bacc or SMP. SMP is kind of a last ditch effort, so use it only if you absolutely have to. Good luck.

IMO, you are not likely to get an interview at an allopathic US med school with your current stats. If an MD school is your goal, you need a sterling MCAT score to balance the low GPA (like a 37). I don't think your excellent research and clinical experience are enough to trump your low numbers

Though the GPA is also low for DO schools, it's not too low, and your MCAT is higher than that of the average acceptee, so they balance each other. If you applied to DO schools, I think you'll likely get interviews, and probably an acceptance if you have a good PS, Letters of Recommendation, and interview well.

Thank you all! Do you know how long SMP programs are?

I'd say keep on w/ MD...

I've gotten interviews and an acceptance w/ a similar gpa, lower sci gpa and the same mcat score....

May I ask which schools did you get interviews from?
