Hi, i was just wondering whether i could get some advice from everyone. I am currently applying to medical school and am in the process of doing secondaries. I have a cum gpa of 3.66 with a 3.6 science gpa with a major in biochem. My mcat scores were a disappointment with 11B, 10P, 8VR. I got freaked that i did badly on the physics section so my mind wasn't with it on the verbal section. I have a long list of extracurriculars including 2 years of research at my university and a little less than a year at NIH as a fellow. I have had several fellowships and awards from my university and from the american chemical society for my research. I have volunteered abroad in an orphanage in the nursing ward for several months which truly was the reason i wanted to become a doctor. In addition, over the next year i will accumulate over 2,000 hours working in a hospital where i'm taught about labs, imaging, and diagnostic medicine. I fully recognize that medical school admission is beyond competitive and reapplying is a very real possibility for many applicants. If i don't get in, i will retake the mcat and reapply. I was just wondering if whether or not i should really consider retaking the mcat? am i hopeless or am i not as bad off as i think? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

you most definitely will be excepted somewhere. Your mcat is right around the average accepted score and with all the EC's you will definitely be looked at. Apply broadly and especially to you state schools! Good work and good luck! Remember the mcat is one test and there is more to the package than one 5hr test.

Actually according to the MSAR the median MCAT of accepted students is 32, although I am told this number is somewhat rounded? Can anyone clarify?

On the other hand, it sounds like the OP is on top of things and has a good application, plus its early. Sooo I agree OP, I think you will get in!GL

I'm not so concerned with your stats, as according to AAMC last year's mean acceptee stats were 3.66 cGPA, 3.6 BCPM GPA, and MCAT of 30.8.

I'm concerned that we may not know enough about the ECs that you listed on your application to judge how adcomms will view you. Stats just get their attention.

Obviously, your research is terrific. What is your US clinical experience? Have you shadowed US physicians? Any leadership, teaching, or nonmedicial community service in the US?
