Hi
SO I need an advice whether I should apply to UCONN or not.
I took my DAT yest and did ok. I got
TS20(87%) AA19(76%) and PAT 18(66%). However, I got a 16 on RC. English is my 3rd language. MY science GPA is 3.42 and Science GPA w/o (whatever it means) is 3.46. non science is 3.56. Freshman year is 3.0 the rest is 3.6+. I have 2 publications lots of research, shadowing, and overall good LOR. Ooh yeah and I also served in the ARMY in a combat unit. so i I am officially a NY resident although I spend most of my time in MA. I know they take most of their class from new england and CT areas. I want to stay in boston so BU and Tufts are my frist choices. NYU will be fine as well. I applied to U Pitt as a back up. Howver, I heard great things about UCON and would love to see the place. My application was submitted and is complete with all the letters and everything and it was sent to all the schools. I am wondering whether I should add UCONN as well? or more specifically do I have a chance there? I am about average with their accepted class last year, but I just don't know. I am short on $$ and prefer not to waste 100$ for a shot in the dark. Also, I don't know how they'll look at 16 on RC.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Based on what is said above i do not see any reason why Uconn would not want to interview you. Your RC may be very ow and your TS and AA are not particularly high, but you have great EC's and grades are not all that is important.
On a side note i would look into a military scholarship.

thanks man, but I have been there and done that. Military is fun when you're 18 not when you're 25

UConn stresses more on sci gpa and TS compared to other parts of the application. The only thing as of is time because UConn class is usually full by the January 15th. But you never know, why not give a shot!!

Thanks I'll contact them and ask. I guess thats the easiest thing I can do.

I am a current student at UConn and I think you definitely have a shot! You will want to make your decision soon, to give yourself a fair shot! UConn is big on research and heavy on the sciences, but you seem like a solid applicant. I understand how you feel when it comes to money though. If you would like to specialize or continue research I would say apply without a doubt. Btw, the instate tuition after 1st year won't hurt either! Good luck with dental school!

thanks man!!! I already added them. I am just waiting to send my check and for them to get my DAT scores.
Thanks!

I interviewed at UCONN and Dr. Thibodeau said that GPA and DAT scores only serve to get your application looked at. To get an interview you have to be a well rounded person. So research, military service, etc... really help out a lot. One thing you should be aware of is that UCONN usually sends out all of their acceptances on Dec. 1 and then keep their fingers crossed that enough people will decline so their class doesn't get crazy overfilled. This means that if you don't get a pre-Dec. 1 interview you won't get one. If I were you I would send in an app. cuz UCONN is one of the best schools in the nation as far as board scores are concerned and you will get regional tuition the first year and then in-state after that. Beautiful campus and nice facilities.
