Do I have a chance with a 35 MCAT?

Yes, I think you've proven that you can handle the academic rigors of medical school despite your "abysmal" grad GPA.

Edit: upon re-reading, noticed you didn't actually get a 35. If you do, see above. Your number one concern is going through with your MCAT plan.

As I understand ugrad GPA is more important than grad GPA

Never assume you will get above a 33, honestly anything about that score will come down to a mixture of luck and skill. I've seen far too many cases of people averaging mid to high 30's and winding up with like a 32.

Yeah lol, it sucked I was averaging 37-38 on last 3 aamc and got a 34, I also know another whose average was a 36 with a 40 on his last and got a 32. Then there are people who average 31 and get a 35. Just do your best!

The title of your thread is a great way to get views. I thought you were for sure a troll asking if a 35 was good enough for med school.

+1

I've learned from other WAMC posts that it's really impossible to predict anyone's chances without knowing an MCAT score. Practice scores don't count (although odds are you're not going to get below a 30 unless you freak out or something on test day).

Kill the MCAT.

oh and my home state is sunny CA, my undergrad was in NY...if that helps put things in perspective. I also will take one pre-req (gen bio) at a CC since AP bio doesnt count for most schools :/

Cali produces a lot of great applicants. However, you have a mostly strong application. I'd say that, if you have a solid reason for the sudden drop in performance, you should be okay. Otherwise, you may have trouble, due more to the fact that it was most recent than because it was graduate. I'd try to talk to adcom representatives, get the take of someone who makes those tough calls. Maybe Lizzie could chime in?

The thing is, if I was an adcom (and I am definitely not), and I was trying to choose between you and someone else who had a 3.9 uGPA and a 35+ MCAT (which btw you don't have yet) and great ECs like yours, then I would probably choose the other applicant who doesn't have your recent history of below average gGPA. The question is how many applicants like this are there. At the top tier schools there are quite a few. I think that you're probably still in great shape for mid-tier schools because other than your gGPA, your application looks amazing. However, at top schools there are tons of applicants who don't have any blemishes like yours on their applications, and plenty of them get rejected each year as well.

I'm just pre-med so you can choose to take my words with a grain of salt, but this is just based on what I've heard. As Pattycake25 said, it would be useful to get an adcom's opinion on this.
