Hi all,

I would like to know if I even have a chance getting into DO/MD schools?

I immigrated to the US towards the end of grade 10 and wasn't sure how things worked here. I did poorly during my undergrad and sophmore year of college, but showed a lot of improvement afterwards. I managed to graduate with a 2.7 gpa then I started taking prerequisites for med school and a few additional science classes and brought my gpa up to 3.0. I have worked in the ER for 4 years but mostly doing what most schools consider clerical work. I also volunteered at the hospital for 140 hours and few hours at a doctors office. I also did an internship unpaid during college for a not for profit organization.

My calculated overall gpa is 3.0, science is 3.25. My prerequisites/recent 40 credits gpa is 3.88. I still have to take orgo 2, and physics 1 and 2 + the mcat. But I wanted to know if I have a chance since my gpa is very very low. Please me honest. How can I make myself a better applicant.
Also want to add that I am 30, dont know if that makes any difference in your opinions.
Thank you

Take this all with a grain of salt...

From what you've said so far I don't see a huge shot at an MD school based on numbers alone. I would say if you can do well on your last three major classes and raise your overall gpa a few points you have an ok shot, but you'd want to get a solid MCAT (27-28 minimum) and consider
retaking some courses you did poorly in in the past (it could really help your ACCOMAS gpa) to have a solid chance.

Lots of "points" left though! Certainly not as bad as it could be! Keep your head up! 🙂

P.S. Age isn't an issue.

We need a MCAT to predict anything. There are med schools that value reinvention, although your cGPA is circling the dumpster. The post-bac success is inspiring, however.
