Hey guys I received a 27N second time around, and a 24Q first time.
I got a 8 PS, 9VR, 10BS, and am currently filling out secondaries. I am a NY resident, and have a 3.8 cGPA, adn 3.9 sGPA.

I have shadowing experience for over two years in two primary care clinics, as well as volunteering in a hospital for two years, and a year of clinical research at the hospital.

What chances do I have to get into US allopathic schools.

IMHO, looking at the stat-based prediction tables and adjusting for the lateness of the application cycle, I'd say you have about a 35% chance based on the limited information you've given about yourself. You could improve those odds significantly if you apply to DO schools, or reapply next June, or retake the MCAT again and add about 3 more points. You have a great GPA, but your MCAT score is 4 points below the median for those accepted. Your clinical exposure is above average for applicants and you have an average amount of research. If you have additional community service, leadership, and maybe some teaching/tutoring, those will help your application as well.

Your best bet at a US MD school is going to be to apply earlier and broadly next year. It's always a crapshoot, but your chances go way down if you apply late.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. The only reason I am still doing secondaries is because I took the Aug 21 MCAT and got my scores recently. I applied to 25 schools, and I do not want to take a year off. I'm hoping I have a chance this year, and if not then maybe Caribbean.

Also I'll apply to DO schools, but my primary goal is to go to an allopathic school.

Is applying now really considered late, since some of my secondaries are in and the application is complete.

Carribean 👎 dont waste your time, apply DO and get into a medical school or wait another year and go MD.

Its tough to predict your chances, you are definitely in that range based on your MCAT score that makes it very unpredictable. You must apply to alot of schools and consider applying to DO, carribbean schools if you really don't want to wait another year. Its hard to predict your chances without your EC's and other information, but I would have to guess that your chances are less than 50% (close to 1/4 to 1/3) of getting in this year. Not trying to be mean but just staying the facts. I wish you the best of luck and don't let anyone stop you from it if it is truly your dream.

Please don't do Caribbean. Your stats will get you in to a US MD school if you apply smartly. You will risk ruining your career if you go Caribbean. You need to, if you don't get in this year, re-apply smartly next year (meaning broadly and EARLY).

Yes, this time is considered late. There are tons of applications getting turned in right now and the adcoms are going to give preference to people with higher stats. Your best bet is an early app, where they have less people to sift through before picking who to interview.

This is coming from a 3.7gpa-er who got a 27 on the MCAT and is at a US MD school. I applied twice and trust me when I say I understand the desire to "just get started." I know Carib schools will let you start in January, but 8 months is NOT worth it. Please be smart about this, so many people go to the Caribbean and then can't get a US residency. DO >>>>> Caribbean.

Your stats are too good for Carib.

Thanks for the input. What school are you currently in with a 3.7 and 27 on the mcat. I did apply broadly, 25 schools, and am hoping to get in somewhere.

Do I have a chance at my state schools at this time. I would have applied much earlier but had to retake mcat.

I'm a Texas resident, so the school I'm at won't help you.

Unfortunately, I know very little about your state schools and the chances you have there applying late. It is however, one of the glaring disadvantages on your application.

Good luck this year.:luck:

When people say "apply early", when am I supposed to be applying then?

Your chances are decent around 70% chance of getting into a school if you apply early and to 15+ MD schools.

disagree. my % chance is 63 and i applied to 26 schools.

It depends, if you are from Canada and are applying to US medical schools chances lower significantly. And a 63% chance of acceptance does not mean that you will be accepted but that the odds are in your favor. People get rejected with 38/3.8

Hi, I'm an international student from jordan. I dream to become a pediatrician. I moved to the united states with my family 4 years ago. I finished highschool and got into a college where i maintained a 3.8 gpa. I applied to a well known university after that, but it was hard for me especially when english is my second language. I scored a very high school on the toefel so my english is getting much better and took advanced english classes with grades not below an A. however, my gpa at the university dropped dramatically to the 2.0's and i had a bad semmester my first year in that university(Biology and chemistry were included) before this university i got As in 2 biology courses. but in teh university i got a really bad grade and dropped out of chemistry. I took easy classes after that to raise my gpa and i'm close to a 3.0 however, I had family issues and had to move...again

at the new university that i transferred to now, I am planning on getting no less than As in my science classes. I know I am capable of doing it now after all the hard work with english and the growth process ive been through. so with a 3.8 my freshman year, a 2.6 my sophmore year, and hopefully close to a 4.0 junior and sophmore year.
Do I have a chance? at all? its harder for international students to be accepted in US schools.
what schools accept more international students? i have volunteer experience in a cancer center for a year, volunteer ata medical center > year
I tutored orphans at this organization back home in jordan and hopefully I will travel this summer and do research in thailand.

I am planning on shadowing a doctor soon. I am going to try my best to score high on the MCAT.

please help me I think about this issue everyday.
would my sophmore year with my bad gpa affect me alot, if i raise my gpa by the time i graduate and retake the classes with bad grades?

what schools should i apply to that you know would accept an international student that is not a complete genius

and if all else fails, what is your opinion on caribbean schools? i know they accept more international students but what about the outcome? i do want to come back to the u.s and work here. is it hard to go back to the u.s from the caribbean?

also has anyone heard about weill cornell in qatar? what is their gpa requirement is it easier to get in their because it is in the middle east?
I appreciate any help ,
thank you

thank you so much for your reply how do i do that!?!?

Great GPA. Good MCAT. Honestly, apply EARLY next year and you'll be perfectly fine! That really does matter to apply early and to a plethora of schools. Best of luck in your educational endeavors. 🙄
