hey hey

I was wondering if i have a chance at getting into a DO school. I am really intereseted in CCOM-Midwester. However me GPA and MCAT are not so hot, i have a 3.45 cum and 3.3 science. I am applying this year, i have a 25 on my mcat 6VR,8PS,11BS & P-WS. I really want to get in this year. I have worked so hard throughout my undergrad career. I have leadership, extracurriculars, volunteer experience. However, i still need to shadow a physician. I am in the process of contacting physicians for this. Do i have a decent shot at getting into med school?

I don't know if you have a good shot, but it is worth trying. Your GPAs are good, but your MCAT is what might hurt you. Your overall score is OK, one point below their averaged posted on their website. But your score distribution is really wide. You had a great BS and good PS, but your VR is low. I don't know if CCOM has any section cutoff, so I would call to find out. Are you a foreign student? If so, that may explain the lower VR score. I think if you have good EC's (which you say you do), you should be able to overcome that. I would try retaking the MCAT to raise your VR and even out your score.

What city do you live in? If you are near Chicago, I can give you a name of a doctor that may be willing to have you shadow them. If not, then find a DO in your area as CCOM prefers that your physician LOR come from a DO, but it is not required. Also, don't be afraid to apply broadly as that will increase your chnaces of being accepted somewhere. Good luck.

Retake the MCAT

With a 6 on the verbal section a P on the writing section wont help you offset that. Plus the overall is really skewed.
