Hi, I'm a MS3 thinking about going into anesthesiology.

I've been getting passing grades in pre-clinical years (P/F system), often lower than the class average. Step 1 was 228. This year I had high passes (honor/high pass/pass/fail) for obgyn & psych, and pass for surgery so far.

I was devastated by the PASS in surgery, since I've heard it's one of the more important clerkship grades... I always receive great comments from residents and attendings, but my shelf seem to ruin it every single time.

I have one summer research in microbio, no publication, and some volunteering experiences. I haven't schmoozed with any of the anethesiologists at my school (not good at it even if I wanted to)... and yah, I did an anesthesiology elective.

Do you think I still have a shot? (even in "good" hospitals?) What would you recommend doing at this point to boost my chance?

Thank you!!

You're in the exact same boat as I am, give or take. We're basically the average anesthesia applicant, so yeah, you/we have a pretty good chance, given smart application.
