Hello!

If I have 4 years of experience as a dental assistant/receptionist (part time & full time)
Should I do a separate shadowing or volunteering? and a research?

Thank you in advance! 🙂

Schools typically require a certain number of shadowing hours so you HAVE to get those in. ~50 is the minimum for most schools but you should contact whichever schools you plan on applying to. Some schools require certain amount of hours in different specialisations too or under a different number of doctors. So really just do some more research.

Your thread title asks if you have enough ECs.... if ALL you have is 4 years of full and part time employment in a dental clinic, then the answer is no.

You have more than enough dental experience but not enough extracurriculars in general. AADSAS asks you to put maximum 6 activities... think about how you wanna present yourself besides as a former dental assistant/ receptionist. Are you involved in any extramural sport teams? Hobbies? Any volunteering?

Thank you for all the inputs!

Yes, I thought so too. This topic came across when I interviewed a dentist to shadow. He said, "why do you even feel the need to shadow anymore? You have way more than enough experience already!" (his words, seriously.)

So I just wanted to know if I was really wasting my time...

THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN! 🙂
