Hey y'all!

This is my first time posting so I apologize if I don't quite follow the rules.

My question is do I need to take Biochemistry before applying to med schools? Would it be okey if I took biochemistry WHILE applying to med schools? This way, my GPA would not be affected by a potentially bad grade (one of the hardest classes at my school) but med schools can see that I am taking a biochemistry class.

So like I'm plan to apply to medical school in the fall of 2015. I could either take biochem in the spring of 2015 or in the fall of 2015. Would it hurt my application to take biochem during the fall of 2015 (when I am applying to med schools?)

Thanks!

Edit: I have already taken the MCAT and gotten a good score on it

Some schools may require it and some don't. Look up on the schools you are interested in and see what their required courses are. And you can take it anytime before you matriculate into medical school if it is required. My recommendation is that biochem may help you on the mcat if you havent taken it already so it might be worthwhile to take the course.

Beyond the possible GPA effects (but it could HELP your GPA too... the glass isn't always half empty, my friend), it doesn't matter when you take it. You don't even HAVE to take it if the schools you apply to don't require it.

Although I assume you'll be taking the 2015 MCAT? So Biochem would be suggested before that, I believe, according to the AAMC.

Most med schools only require that you have pre reqs completed by matriculation, not by the time you apply (except Vanderbilt I believe). Taking biochem while you are applying should be fine.

Oh I should mention that I already took the MCAT and scored well on it

So it seems like I can take it my senior year and not have it affect my medical school application! In this case, I shall take biochem next year as a senior! Thanks guys!

It will help in medical school. Not an easy class.
